Woman so excited to be clear of cancer, she breaks the bell

When a person gets cleared of cancer, they excitedly rings the hospital’s cancer-free bell and it is something that people in the hospitals definitely look forward to.

A Texas woman has given a new meaning to this tradition when she finally completed her final chemotherapy session and accidentally broke the hospital’s cancer-free bell out of so much excitement!

Darla Jaye was diagnosed with breast cancer this February, and it was the most devastating day of her life. She was scared of the realization that she could actually die because of it, but her fright was not enough to squish the courage in her. Since her diagnosis, Darla has undergone 30 rounds of chemotherapy and radiation.

After 5 months of treatment, Darla finally completed her last session at the Harris Health System in Houston, Texas. She was so glad to have survived the excruciating and frightening ordeal that when she was made to ring the hospital’s cancer-free bell, she rang it so hard that she accidentally broke the rope and it went soaring through the air!

“I broke the bell!,” Darla exclaimed. “That’s fantastic!”

Darla’s announcement of the end of her treatment was all recorded on camera by the hospital staff, including the moment where she broke the bell. The footage was heartwarming, funny and delightful at the same time. It was something that certainly brought inspiration to everyone who hoped to survive cancer the way Darla did.

The hospital staff was so happy about Darla’s enthusiasm that they decided to share the video on Twitter.

“Congratulations to @DarlaJaye1 She completed her last round of radiation treatment for breast cancer. She was so excited, she broke the bell!” they posted.

Darla was just so glad that she overcame this big challenge in her life. The treatment can really break a person’s soul if they aren’t strong enough to survive through the pain.

“I never imagined that I would make it through those 30 treatments and be able to ring that bell,” she told the Fox 26. “I was so excited and then I thought, ‘Oh my gosh, I broke equipment!'”

Hearing the fateful words about her diagnosis truly broke Darla’s spirit at first. But, she refused to back down and now, she finally survived and could only feel gratitude for this blessing.

“When you hear the words: ‘You have cancer,’ the first thing you think of is: ‘Am I going to die?'” Darla said. “So … when I rang that bell, I was celebrating that I was alive and that I was essentially done for now.”

Surviving the treatment was a huge accomplishment and Darla remains positive as she keeps her faith that cancer has really gone out of her system.

According to the American Cancer Society, 20% or one out of 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Darla became a part of the statistic but she found the courage and the will to become one of those who survived.

Cancer is no joking matter. It is scary and it can rob the life out of a person who gets a diagnosis even before it totally sets in. For Darla, overcoming 30 sessions of radiation and chemotherapy is something that is worth celebrating. She was thankful for the fact that after all of those sessions that really tested her spirit, she came out victoriously and is now ready to take on life in a whole new perspective.
