Some people are just born to be around animals 24/7, and Hallee Fuqua is one of them. The young woman from Oklahoma is a huge animal lover! She has actually been volunteering at the local dog shelter, taking care of the four-footers, making sure that they would find new loving homes, and also giving them plenty of love and affection at the shelter in the meanwhile.
Even though Hallee loved every single one of her four-footers at the shelter, there was one dog in particular whom she bonded with the most.
It was a rescue dog who listened to the name Rambo, and these two were completely inseparable at the shelter. The four-footer is a mix of the Plott Hound and Mountain Cur breeds and his personality is just incredibly affectionate, sweet, and loving. It’s really no wonder that Hallee fell head over heels in love with him.
“She would come in and just sit with him,” shelter director Jackie Ross-Guerrero said to ABC News. “They connected from day one.”
However, the young woman also knew that her time with Rambo would be limited. After all, he was a shelter dog and it was quite likely that a family would come and adopt the pooch.
She knew that every moment she spent with him could be one of their last, and she was determined to enjoy every day with him.
One day, Hallee’s nightmare came true: someone adopted Rambo and she would lose her best friend.
However, it was actually her own family who filed for the adoption, and it was a complete and total surprise.
Hallee’s always wanted a pup but was never allowed to have one. Until now, that is.
Dad Lance saw just how much Rambo meant to his daughter, and he decided to secretly arrange the adoption of Rambo as an absolutely amazing Christmas present.
Lance quickly found himself stuck in a conspiracy full of white lies and secrets, but the heartwarming surprise was definitely worth it. The shelter director Jackie was in on the whole thing and thought it was an absolutely sweet gesture.
“We pulled a little white lie when she would come in so she would think he was still under adoption,” Jackie said.
When Hallee discovered that Rambo was adopted, she was absolutely heartbroken – but her sadness wouldn’t last for long.
Two days after, dad Lance arranged for the amazing surprise, a couple of days before Christmas. He filmed the entire reunion and Hallee’s reaction, and the pure, emotional, and touching moment simply can’t be described with words. It didn’t take long before the video went viral on both Facebook and YouTube!
“So, here’s the story. Our daughter Hallee Fuqua has been asking for a dog for Christmas for years. We told her she should wait until after she graduates college. She began volunteering at the Humane Society of Stillwater. She fell in love with a dog named Rambo and visited him often,” dad wrote in the video description.
Hallee opens the door and has no clue what’s about to happen. Much to her surprise, she sees her own dad, with Rambo right beside him.
When Rambo runs over to her, Hallee is absolutely in shock and breaks down in tears. “Is he mine?”, she asks while still overwhelmed with emotion.
And the tears of joy didn’t stop there when she realized that Rambo was actually hers now.
“My wife and I decided to secretly adopt him 3 weeks ago,” dad continued. “With the help from the Humane Society we kept it a secret. She found out this weekend that Rambo had been adopted and she was broken. So Sunday night we surprised her with her early Christmas present. We captured the moment on video. Merry Christmas Hallee! #onehappygirl #onehappydog”
Dad even encouraged viewers to donate to the local shelter to support all the other four-footers still looking for a home.
