Shannon Lorio was driving on a winding road when she lost control of her car and went spinning off the asphalt. Getting thrown out of her car and tossed into a wooded area, she was invisible in the shadows and undergrowth.

Incredibly, the story doesnโ€™t end in tragedy there. She was found by the most unlikely of peopleโ€ฆ well, dogs. A homeless dog was able to find her and drag her body out of the twisted metal mess and get help. In an interview posted online, the emotional moment was just as crazy as it sounds.

Speaking of her hometown in Pavo, Georgia, Shannon describes it as โ€œa quiet areaโ€ where โ€œeveryone sticks to themselves.โ€

Winding curving roads werenโ€™t something strange in the area that Shannon lived. After getting into an argument with her husband, she went on a drive to clear her head.

โ€œI was angry, and I was speeding.โ€ Shannon recalled. โ€œI turned onto a road that was really windy and curvy, took the first curve no problems- but when I came into the second curve, the car fishtailed. It took my out of the driverโ€™s seat and threw me out of the back glass.โ€

When she woke up, she was lying half in her car โ€“ the front of her body was in the trunk and her legs were in the backseat.

She didnโ€™t really remember what happened, but she knew she needed help. In pain and in need of help, she didnโ€™t know what to do. She was essentially stranded and nobody was around โ€“ well, almost nobody!

โ€œBecause of the way my car went in, anyone who was coming wouldnโ€™t have seen me.โ€ Shannon said. โ€œI donโ€™t know how long I had been out before I came to, but I remember when I did come to, I felt this huge presence. I donโ€™t know if he was making his rounds (the dog), I donโ€™t know if he was headed back to his original owner. But he came across me, and I thank God that he did.โ€

โ€œHe had jumped up onto the back of the car, and he was up there where I was at. My face was bleeding, and he began to lick my face. And the next time I came to, he had me turned around and halfway off the car. He was pulling me off the back of the car.โ€

The heroic dog ha grabbed her shirt and was pulling and tugging at her. As she faded in and out, she found herself being pulled out of the car, then to the edge of the road where she would eventually be found.

She knew that she needed to get someoneโ€™s attention. Grabbing the dogโ€™s neck and lifting herself up, she was able to finally signal a passing car who then called an ambulance.

Shannon next woke up in the hospital where she found out that sheโ€™d obtained a brain hemorrhage from the crash. Luckily, she was able to recover quickly at home, and she will be forever grateful for the dog who saved her life.

โ€œThis dog, he did everything, and heโ€™s an amazing animal, he really is,โ€ Shannon said tearfully. โ€œIf he hadnโ€™t have saved me, I wouldnโ€™t have been here today.

The dog ended up with a happy ending, too! After the daring rescue, he was taken to the Humane Society and adopted by a search and rescue trainer, Heidy Drawdy.

The little hero has been trained for wilderness, and is apparently doing โ€œreally, really well,โ€ and loves to find and help people in the woods as he did with Shannon. What an amazing dog! Watch the emotional interview below.
