If you had to move to a new place that wouldn’t allow you to bring your senior dog with you — what would you do? Would you turn down the offer to move? Would you drop your dog off at a shelter? It’s a horrible predicament to find yourself in and it’s absolutely heartbreaking for all parties.
A 12-year old dog named Tessa had an owner that moved away and couldn’t take her with her. A neighbor of Tessa’s owner offered to take the dog but apparently, the neighbor ended up changing their mind.
After being abandoned by one owner, the next guardian decided they didn’t want her either.
Instead of tracking down the original owner, trying to find a new home or contacting a no-kill shelter — the neighbor did something that many people, especially dog lovers, will find absolutely despicable. A decision that most could not fathom.
The man left the senior dog in a field with all of her belongings, like her bed and bowl, along with a note that ended with “I don’t need a dog.”
Eventually, Tessa was spotted and rescued by a man named Alan Webster who runs a 24-hour volunteer rescue service called South Yorkshire Pet Ambulance. Tessa and her things were sopping wet when he arrived.
When Tessa was finally found, rescuers were unsure how long she had been there. Webster was just happy that he was able to find her alive and healthy.
Tessa was so grateful to finally be rescued; she wanted to be somewhere warm and dry.
Rescuers couldn’t believe the note that was left behind with the poor dog; it was incomprehensible. South Yorkshire shared the note on Facebook shaming both the woman who moved in the first place and the man that abandoned her.
The South Yorkshire Pet Ambulance Facebook page posted an update stating that the man who abandoned her has been found, however, it is unclear whether or not charges will be filed.
Tessa might be 12-years old but she still has years to give and would love to be in a forever home.

The rescue group isn’t sure if there was ever a woman who owned Tessa in the first place or if the man was scrambling for excuses. Whatever the case may be — Tessa will be living out her final days in a home that she so truly deserves.
