One day, a man brought a severely ill piglet into an animal shelter near Temecula, California. The poor piglet was suffering from sarcoptic mange, one of the worst types of mange an animal can get.
The shelter mainly worked with cats and dogs, so they contacted Jen Sale, the CEO and founder of Sale Ranch Sanctuary. Sale said that she would take the poor piglet in and give her the treatment that she needed.
Sale thinks that unsanitary conditions were the cause of the little piglet’s mange.
“Most likely she was born into overcrowded, filthy conditions. As a baby, her immune system was still developing, and she kind of got walloped,” Sale told The Dodo.
Sale named the piglet Cherry Blossom and began treating her mange. Even though the mange caused excruciating pain, Chery Blossom was still very affectionate and sweet with Sale.
“She still wanted comfort from us,” Sale told The Dodo. “We’d come and put the medicine on her, and she learned very quickly that we were helping her. And even though she was in so much pain, she’d snuggle up and want us to rub her belly. She’s just a testimony for how forgiving and loving animals are.”
Sale and a veterinarian treated Cherry Blossom’s mange with cream rubs and laser light therapy. Cherry Blossom slowly began to heal.
Two months after beginning her treatment, Cherry Blossom had transformed into a brand-new pig.
Cherry Blossom’s hair began growing again, and her full, playful personality came out. She loves goofing around with the sanctuary’s dogs, visiting other animals in the barnyard, getting belly rubs, and hanging out with her new best friend, a rescued calf named Faith.
Sale is thrilled that Cherry Blossom is so happy and doing so well in her new home.
“We’re just really grateful and blessed that we were able to bring her home and take care of her and get her healthy,” she told The Dodo. “Even though she kind of had a rough start to life, she’s doing very well. She’s going to have a really beautiful life.”
Cherry Blossom has had a tough life, but she’s still amazingly sweet and joyful. The Sale Ranch Sanctuary has done a great job at providing this lovable pig and all the other animals at their sanctuary with top-notch care.
