Featured in this video is the heartwarming moment when an orangutan mother named Clara is reunited with her baby daughter after she was kidnapped.

The video was captured as part of a new TV show, Orangutan Jungle School, which follows the journey of orphan orangutans as they are rescued, cared for, and eventually released back into the wild.

In todayโ€™s story, the daughter of Clara, a baby orangutan named Clarita, was kidnapped by a local dominant male. Before the kidnapping, they had both been living a semi-independent, peaceful life.

It was a week before the pair were both finally found and rescued by the Borneo Orangutan Survival foundation โ€” the organization that operates the unique school located in the Borneo jungle in Central Kalimantan Indonesia.

Unfortunately, since the mother and daughter orangutan had been separated for some time, there was no telling how the reunion would go. The staff was concerned that Clara could potentially reject little Clarita.

In an interview with Metro, park staff elaborated:

โ€˜The mother can reject the baby when the baby smells different like the first time,โ€™ the park staff said.

Another danger was that even if the mother accepted the baby again, she might refuse to give her milk.

In the video, the two are reintroduced very cautiously, with Clara being able to touch her baby gently through the bars of the cage.

After a few minutes, it became clear that Clara still remembered Clarita, and the reunion was going to have a happy ending.

โ€œClara was looking at her child as if she was glad, happy to be seeing her child again,โ€ said one park staff member in the video.

They decided to hand over the baby to Clara, and the excited mother couldnโ€™t wait for them to get the cage open. As she lovingly takes Clarita into her arms, it is an incredibly beautiful moment.

However, there was still one hurdle to overcome โ€” to see if Clara would allow her baby to breastfeed.

One of the park nurses named Vivi explained:

โ€œWhen the mothers reject the babies, sometimes they just let them starve, they donโ€™t want to give them milk,โ€ said Vivi.

After a few minutes of being together, all of a sudden Claritaโ€™s little cries stopped. Clara offered her baby daughter milk, and all of the staff breathed a huge sigh of relief.

The happy mother and daughter were together once again, and this time, park staff would do their best to make sure that things would stay that way forever.

โ€œClara, Iโ€™m not taking your baby, she wonโ€™t be taken away anymore,โ€ said the female park staff member. โ€œIt wonโ€™t happen again. Sheโ€™s yours, Clara.โ€

Eventually, the pair will both graduate from the Orangutan Jungle School, and be released back into the wild.
