The Internet is full of beauty hacks, but we’ve gathered together a few of the best to solve some of the more commoon problems faced by those who struggle with their daily makeup and hair routines.

From perfect lips to flawless foundation, these tips will keep you from having to check your reflection every couple of hours.

Keep your lipstick in place with the finger trick

Let’s start with lips. Bold lip color is in right now, but it’s hard to keep in place. No one likes the murdery clown look that comes with having color bleed outside the lip line or, even worse, onto your teeth!

Unless you like that freshly fed vampire look, your best bet is to wash your hands, apply your lipstick, and then stick your finger in your mouth.

We know it sounds weird, but when you close your lips around your finger and pull it out, any lipstick too far inside the lip will end up on your finger instead of your teeth. Give it a try!

(And a little concealer can go a long way if you accidentally color too far outside the lines!)

Brush your lips for a smooth canvas

A well-done bold lip is worth the effort, but not if you don’t start with a healthy base.

Dry and cracked lips will be all the more obvious with a dark color to highlight the flaws.

Avoid the crusty lip look by keeping your lips moisturized and exfoliated. Pro tip: keep a spare toothbrush in your makeup bag and gently brush off dead skin before you start your makeup routine.

And best not to do it on a dry lip. Try some Vaseline or lip balm so you’re not breaking the skin. Then simply rinse and get ready to paint that smooth new canvas.

Make your own lip color

Sometimes it’s tough to find the perfect color for lips, especially when you want it to match your other makeup.

This genius hack will have you DIYing your own lip gloss in no time.

Simply grab your favorite colorless gloss, a dab of vaseline, or a pinch of lip balm. Then, scoop out a bit of your favorite blush or eyeshadow and mix! You can add more or less color and even mix colors together until you get the best color and texture combo for your unique look.

Find new uses for extra lipstick

Between free samples and great makeup sales, lots of us find ourselves with some extra lipstick lying around. Don’t let it go to waste!

Just like you can make lip color from other makeup, you can turn your lipstick into eye color or blush. Long-lasting formulas will help you avoid color transfer, especially on the eyelids.

You’ll have to play around a little to find the texture and colors that work best for you, but that can be part of the fun.

Get an instant facelift by applying foundation up and out

Even the best lips can’t detract from a clumpy makeup job on the rest of your face.

Regardless of whether you go with a low-maintenance tinted moisturizer or gear up for a full contouring session, the best way to apply your cover layer is to sweep up and out.

Not only does this motion avoid getting too much makeup in areas where you don’t want it (like forehead lines), it has the added benefit of making your skin look lifted and youthful.

Apply concealer as a triangle, not a crescent

If you apply concealer after your base layer (which is the correct order!), be sure to avoid the clown look by extending it out of the immediate area.

Anyone who has swiped a bit of concealer under their eyes and tried to call it a day knows that it looks all too obvious and can enhance lines and bags.

By drawing undereye concealer down into the cheek area, you can brighten the whole area without looking like you tried to cover just one specific flaw.

So forget the crescent roll application and go with the inverted triangle instead.

Blotting paper alternative

Have you ever walked into a public restroom and had the lighting remind you just how long it’s been since you touched up your face?

Keep the oily look at bay throughout the day by taking advantage of the seat covers in the stalls.

Granted, it’s unconventional and might feel a bit weird, but if you’re caught without blotting paper, this is basically made of the same material and will soak up any excess oil from your face without leaving behind the powdery residue of some blotting pads.

Plump your lashes with a powder layer

Lashes are in right now and many of us struggle to make ours look full without piling on extra layers of mascara.

Avoid the clumpy layered look by adding a swipe of powder in between. This will plump up lashes before that final coat.

Heat your lash curler, carefully

No time for a lash lift? Make the most out of your eyelash curler by taking a page from the curling iron handbook.

Grab your blow dryer and give it a quick hit with some heat before curling lashes. Running it under hot water works as well.

Of course, you need to be careful not to overheat it and burn your sensitive eyelids. Only apply heat for a few seconds and be sure to do a touch test before it gets anywhere near your eyes.

If you do it right, your curl will last all day.

Eliminate frizzy hair by eliminating towels

Some people can pull off the messy hair look as long as their makeup is perfect, but if you’re not so lucky, avoid the frizz and static by switching out your towels for cotton shirts when you step out of the shower.

The secret to rich girl hair is protecting the hair shaft and maintaining shine. So save the towel for your body, hit your head with some cold water as your final rinse, and wrap it in a t-shirt you no longer use.

Your hair will thank you for being extra gentle.
