Manager feeds first responders without question, gets paid $911
He didn't hesitate when asked to feed the first responders pouring into his restaurant.

After the 9/11 attack, people have gained more respect for first responders who bravely stayed and dug through the rubble in order to save lives. They definitely became great sources of inspiration in such a dark time all over America.

In Independence, Missouri, a restaurant called the Back Yard Burgers have always made sure that they show their respect and appreciation to every first responder who went inside the establishment. After the 9/11 attack, the restaurant dedicated a wall to pay tribute to all the first responders who courageously stayed behind when everyone was running away from ground zero.

On September 11, 2019, an anonymous person came by at the restaurant earlier that day and talked to its manager, Jeff Pepperman. He specifically instructed the manager to feed every cop, firefighter and first responder who walks through the door of the restaurant.

It was a gesture that was absolutely admired by Pepperman. But, what truly moved him was when the anonymous man on a mission gave him the money to be used for the food of all the first responders who will come by to eat. He received $911, and he teared up as the realization that the anonymous person wanted to pay his tribute to these brave people hit him.

Fire engine operator Thaddeus Marr and his crew decided to have lunch at Back Yard Burgers that day after answering to some fire calls in the area. The establishment was quite a favorite in Independence because of its tasty burgers.

The men were eager to have lunch and were not aware of the surprise that was waiting for all of them when they stepped inside the restaurant. When they were about to pay for the food they ordered, Jeff announced that everything is taken cared of. He also made sure to say how much they appreciated the efforts of these men in keeping the neighborhood safe and secure.

Marr and his crew were very thankful for the kind gesture and could not believe the kindness that was extended to them that day. It was definitely a moment that captured their hearts and made them realize that people see what they do and that they appreciate the hard work they put in every single day just to keep everyone protected.

Jeff Pepperman shared how the anonymous man needed to re-arrange his finances just to set aside the amount for the food of first responders that day. He was one admirable and inspirational man and Jeff was deeply touched by this person’s genuine kindness and respect towards first responders.

Pepperman made sure that every cop and firefighter got the food and the story behind it, even the ones who ordered by the drive-thru. He wanted to let them know about the selfless person who wanted to give back to the brave people who serves the community each day by keeping everyone safe and out of harm’s way.

Eighteen years ago on this same date, the world saw the devastation that brought the twin towers crumbling to the ground. On this same date, first responders courageously fought with all their might so they can save people from the terrifying incident. Giving back through free food may just be a simple gesture but to these men and women whose heroism prevailed that day, this small act of kindness and appreciation matters greatly.
