Some people are willing to go to great lengths to help homeless animals find a new home. Animal enthusiast Scott Poore from Kansas City has proved that with enough love and dedication, it’s possible to change the lives of many homeless animals.
Scott is now a full-time volunteer in a dog shelter and his aim is to find new homes for dogs and people who are ready to become their loving owners. His enthusiasm has helped dozens of formerly homeless animals leave the shelter and get the care that they deserve.
The info on Mission Driven, the company Scott currently works for, goes on to describe his mission:
“Scott creates and promotes fundraisers to help shelters meet their needs, and he spends quality time with some of the most veteran 4-legged residents in those shelters in an effort to help them find the forever homes they deserve.”
Scott’s passion for animals doesn’t allow him to give up, even when the odds seem stacked against him. So when Scott discovered a 3-year-old pit bull named ‘Queen’ and was told that she had spent over a year in Great Plains SPCA shelter, he did not hesitate for a moment and decided to help.
Queen’s health was rather poor when she first arrived at the shelter, Scott told Inside Edition, and although her condition improved, nobody seemed to want her. But that did not discourage Scott from trying to find a new home for her.
“When you’re a shelter pet and you’ve been in a shelter for 400 days, it says that on your kennel card. People see that and they think there has to be something wrong with the animal.”
Ultimately, Scott made a decision that would attract media attention and share the Queen’s story with the world. What he did was quite unexpected: he moved into the animal shelter to take care of her. Scott’s story only goes to prove that nothing is too difficult if we’re doing what we love.
Scott shared his experience of living in the animal shelter and helping Queen find the home that she deserves:
“I was willing to put my life on hold. It’s not very enjoyable, but I love my roommate and she has been amazing, and she loves the company. When the staff leaves and the lights go off, you’d think everybody goes to sleep, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. There’s not a lot of sleep. I don’t want to paint a horrible picture, but it sucks.”
Despite the troubles, he experienced along the way, Scott’s dedication and persistence produced amazing results and only seven days after he moved into the shelter, the Great Plains SPCA announced on Facebook that Queen has found her new family:
“THANK YOU to Mission Driven and Scott Poore for all the help in finding Queen a forever family that is going to give her the royal treatment she deserves! Scott, we hope you don’t have to move back in anytime soon, although you’re always welcome!”
We’re glad that Queen’s story had a happy ending but it would not have been possible if it hadn’t been for Scott and his determination to help her when all hope for her seemed lost. Keep up the good work, Scott!
