How far would you be willing to go to help out a stray cat?

For some of you animal lovers out there, the answer would be simple.

As far as it takes.

For others, helping out a cat isn’t exactly on the top of their list.

Luckily for one cat mama and her kitten, the staff at one emergency room in Turkey were cat lovers.

When a stray wandered into the ER with her apparently sick kitten, the staff surrounded her and began to help.

They checked both cats for any signs of sickness or injury then focused their efforts on the kitten.

The mom was reluctant to let the kitten out of her sight at first, but the ER staff made sure to offer plenty of pets, milk, and food to her in order to ease her stress.

Ultimately the medics decided that there weren’t any obvious signs of injury or sickness for either one of the cats but sent them to a vet just in case.

Fortunately, the vet couldn’t find anything wrong with the cats either.

This story touched the hearts of tens of thousands of people when it went viral on social media and got up to 82K views on Reddit.

Not surprisingly, this isn’t the only heartwarming story about kindness to animals that you’ll find coming out of Turkey.

It’s a country known for its kindness to stray animals.

According to BBC, the government has been trying to figure out what to do about all of the stray animals that will be going hungry during the Covid-19 quarantine.

Since there are so many strays on the streets that rely on the generosity of volunteers for food, the government wants to make sure that these animals are fed.

According to the article, “The interior ministry has decided that the job falls to local councils nationwide, and has ordered them ‘to bring food and water to animal shelters, parks, gardens, and other areas where animals are found.'”

It’s hard to see animals suffer and it’s nice to know that there are good people out there that are trying to keep the suffering to a minimum.

The article goes on to say that “all necessary measures must be taken to ensure stray animals don’t go hungry.”

Unfortunately, the problem isn’t fixed by feeding the strays.

A better solution would be to try and limit the number of strays that end up on the streets in the first place.

That means encouraging pet owners to have their pets spayed or neutered and creating organizations dedicated to finding homes for the strays that already exist.

It can be easy to think that this is just a problem for other countries.

In reality, we have a serious stray animal problem right here in the United States.

Accroding to One Green Planet, “There are about 70 million stray animals living in the U.S.”

That’s far more than there should be.

So next time you see a pet in need, do what you can to help it.

But remind yourself of the ways in which we can keep that stray from ending up in that unfortunate situation in the first place.

And if you need a small boost of encouragement, just remember the good medics in Turkey who made sure that one cat mama and her kitten got the care that they deserved.
