Lost Dog Reports Himself Missing At Police Station
He's quite the responsible dog. :)

It’s not every day that a local citizen calmly strolls into a police station to report a crime in progress or helps to solve it. Especially if it’s something he himself was responsible for.

But that’s exactly what happened when this friendly doggo walked into the Odessa Police Station in Texas to turn himself in.

The problem, as he barked to police officers, was that he was THE missing person of interest who had run away from home!

Sergeant Rusty Martin received the eager pup, who didn’t seem too distressed about the situation. The fact that he publicly outed himself, when most furries would try to hide, was even less concerning to this brave pooch!

The officers on duty were more than happy to play along with this pooch. Who wouldn’t?

Sergeant Martin told The Dodo:

“We were all excited to have him in the building. We had a tennis ball and threw it in the lobby for a bit. Everyone loved on him.”

Love him or not, when the cops tried to pat him down and search for some identification, they came up empty handed. He had a collar and looked very healthy, but his dog tags were missing. I’d like to pat him myself…

Unfortunately, none of his paw prints were in the system, either. Is this The Bork Identity? Mission ImPAWSible?

Maybe he was there to apply for one of the open K-9 positions with the police department. After all, it’s not easy to lose yourself! But this good boy found his bearings and turned himself in with grace. Does he get a treat?

Comments and pictures of the canine were posted onto the department’s Facebook page:

“So…. this happy guy randomly strolled into the front desk of the Police Department last night. We’re thinking he wanted to apply for a K-9 position after eliminating a Lassie type situation.”

When Chico finally decided that play time was over and that should probably get back home to his family, he politely let himself out the door.

Sergeant Martin wrote in a post on Facebook:

“He was given lots of love and attention until he decided it was time for him to leave. He let himself out and after an exhausting search was not found. We were relieved to learn he safely returned to his owner. Chico is welcome back anytime.”

Chico’s owner, Edward Alvarado, didn’t even know his furry buddy had gone missing. He was sleeping when the goofball ran out the gate!

Edward was hoping to train him as a guard dog for his dad’s store, but it’s obvious now that he’s not exactly a fitting candidate for the job…

He found out about Chico’s disappearance through Facebook when his nephew showed him the post.. Turns out the sly little guy had become an overnight celebrity!

Chico has to be the first missing pet to crack their own case, even if it was one that he created for himself. Now about that security job… this big pup would make a better detective, we think. Just keep those treats coming!
