On Friday, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West welcomed their third child into the world, born via a surrogate. Rumors swirled over what the child’s name would be, possibly because the couple named their first two kids North and Saint, and just any old name would not do.
Finally, the day her child was born, Kim tweeted this announcement:
Chicago West. https://t.co/3MyLwcIzTh

Kanye West was born in Chicago, so the moniker is personal. But the question remained: how would they pronounce the name?
Kim’s sister, Khloe Kardashian, quickly cleared it up for all of us:
I LOOOOOOOOOOVE her name 😍😍😍😍 hey Chi (shy) https://t.co/Ikd0ay3DsO

But many people felt there was a missed opportunity here:
Now that Kanye and Kim's kid is named Chicago, I'm allowed to say I'm mad they didn't choose Philadelphia instead.
How great would it be for every time someone writes your name "Last, First" someone said "West, Philadelphia" and you could say BORN AND RAISED.

So Kim and Kanye named their kid Chicago. That’s cool and all but they really missed out on an opportunity…
Imagine they named her Philadelphia .
On role sheets and rosters she’d be West, Philadelphia. Born and raised. On the playground she could spend most of her days.

Kim and Kanye missed out on a great opportunity… if they'd named their new baby "Philadelphia" we'd have a new Rick Roll'd moment.
Imagine: Philadelphia's first day at school, roll call…
Teacher: "West, Philadelphia?"
Class: "From West Philadelphia, born and raised…"— Jennifer Sanett (@insanetty) January 20, 2018
Kim and Kanye missed out on the perfect opportunity of naming their daughter Philadelphia because whenever they call out West, Philadelphia, she can respond with "born and raised"

Others were looking for meaning in the name choice:
North. Chicago.
What is the abbreviation for Saint?
St.
Wake up people. He is not naming children. He is drawing us a map. Swear on my kids his next one will be named Joliet. #ChicagoWest pic.twitter.com/7z9ngFc2jp

I grew up on the west side of Chicago so today feels like a big day for me.

And Ryan had a pretty specific idea of what’s happening:
Kim and Kanye are naming their children in code and creating a secret map to treasure. My bet is under a Saint Lutheran Church in North West Chicago. Will keep you all updated as more babies are born. Happy hunting.
