Fans of Orange is the New Black and Pitch Perfect 3 got a bit of shock on Thursday when androgynous star Ruby Rose took to Twitter to post a pic of herself in a wheelchair.
The Australian model, DJ, and actress reassured fans that she’s okay:
So..For the past few years (decade) I’ve been dealing with a spine issue. I am now recovering from a back procedure, but I do need to stay active, so before I get seen with my cane and wheel chair in public, I’d rather put it out there that I’m fine and going to be fine. pic.twitter.com/7nVw5fIk3k

Rose gave no further details as to the nature and extent of her spinal injuries or exactly what procedure she had.
Fans were quick to send messages of support:
Ouch.. Stay strong Ruby!!!

Some Twitter users could relate:
I wish you a speedy recovery. I know how it feels to have a spine procedure. I was hit by a car and my spine was shattered so I had to have a cadaver vertebrae and spinal fusion done. Now I have rods and screws holding me together. Stay strong, Ruby!

Oh wow. @rubyrose I just spent over a year recovering from surgery and really just getting “back” into shape after 4 years of chronic pain and steroid shots. If you need any help, @dlaik1 is right. I know my shit.

One was glad to see her speaking about her disability, helping to lessen the stigma for others:
Hey, as one of many disabled folks who sometimes wears braces or needs other assistive devices, thanks for being open about this. It means a lot to have people see that assistive devices give folks autonomy and freedom to go about their day!

Rose felt comfortable enough to share another bit of health-related news and fans cheered along with her:
On the plus side guess who had to quit smoking !!!!! YAY!!!! Im done ! I’m finally done.. that filthy, smelly, dirty, slowly killing you while you pay for it to suffocate you, is finally out of my life. I quit yesterday. And for my back ( and Mum ) I’ll never start again. 🚭🚭🚭
