Not all of us are wizards when it comes to technology. Fortunately, David and David from Payette Forward are. Theyโ€™re here to guide us through getting our iPhones into tip-top, battery-saving shape!

iPhone Analytics

This setting actually sends information to Apple, which according to David, โ€œdrains your battery and presents a privacy issue about how you use your phone.โ€ The reason is to help Apple improve โ€“ yet, the guys still recommend you turn the analytics off.

To do so, open โ€œSettingsโ€ on your phone. Then scroll to โ€œPrivacyโ€ followed by โ€œAnalytics.โ€ Now youโ€™ll be able to turn off โ€œShare iPhone Analytics.โ€

iCloud Analytics

This is in the same location as the iPhone Analytics in the previous tip. While youโ€™re there, turn this setting off too. Itโ€™s a similar data collecting feature that will affect your battery life.

Significant Locations

This setting uses GPS to help track your locations โ€“ which allows it to โ€œdeliver relevant advertising to you.โ€ The reason David says is to โ€œmake your experience betterโ€ โ€“ but itโ€™s not necessary.

Hereโ€™s how to turn it off. Go to โ€œPrivacyโ€ again in the โ€œSettingsโ€ app. Next, find โ€œLocation Services,โ€ then scroll to โ€œSystem Services.โ€ This is where youโ€™ll find โ€œSignificant Locations.โ€ Now just tap it off.

Almost Everything in System Services

If youโ€™re looking to save your battery, this will help do the trick. These services are always running when turned on โ€“ which can affect it. So, simply turn some of them off.

Go back to โ€œSystem Servicesโ€ on your iPhone. Here, youโ€™re going to select only a few settings to leave on. The expert recommends that you KEEP โ€œEmergency Calls & SOS,โ€ โ€œFind My iPhone,โ€ and โ€œShare My Location.โ€

Other than those you probably wonโ€™t miss the rest, so turn them off. However, be sure to watch the video below to hear what David and David say about them all โ€“ just to be sure!

Limit Ad Tracking

If you value your privacy, then this is a good setting to actually click โ€œon.โ€ Head back to โ€œPrivacyโ€ and scroll to find โ€œAdvertising.โ€ Hereโ€™s where youโ€™ll click, โ€œLimit Ad Tracking.โ€

David explains:

โ€œThis really prevents advertisers from tracking you as you use your iPhone connected to the internet and they track you from site, to site, to site, to site โ€“ and get more information about you.โ€

Fetch New Data

If youโ€™re someone who doesnโ€™t need to know at every moment if thereโ€™s a new email, this is a brilliant tip that will help save your battery life. Start back at โ€œSettingsโ€ and click on โ€œPasswords and Accounts.โ€ Now go to โ€œFetch New Data.โ€

This is where youโ€™ll make sure that โ€œPushโ€ is turned off. Instead, change your accounts to โ€œFetchโ€ and set up how often you want your iPhone to look for new information like emails.

In the video, David has his set to every 15 minutes. Be sure to watch for more details on this setting!

Background App Refresh (for certain apps)

The expert says, โ€œBackground App Refresh allows certain apps to download data in the background even when youโ€™re not using them.โ€ This isnโ€™t necessary for all the apps you have, and you probably wonโ€™t notice any difference.

Go to the โ€œSettingsโ€ screen and tap on โ€œGeneral.โ€ Then go to โ€œBackground App Refresh.โ€ Youโ€™ll next go through the list and select the ones you donโ€™t need this feature for (turning them off).

As for David, he chooses to keep apps like โ€œNewsโ€ and โ€œEspnโ€ on โ€“ but not some others he doesnโ€™t need constantly updated.
