Few moments warm my heart like watching animals from different species get along.
It happens rather frequently in the grand scheme of things. but witnessing a dog and a cat behave like best friends never fails to make me feel warm and fuzzy inside.
One such instance of a dog and a cat being friends is this video posted on YouTube by Viral Paws. The video is two minutes and fifteen seconds of pure cuteness. It shows a cat and a husky who are best friends greeting a baby kitten into the world.
The two grown animals look quite like proud parents while the baby kitten just sits there like an adorable fluff ball of potential. Another cat makes an appearance but isnโt seen interacting with the husky a whole lot. Itโs possible to assume that this second cat is the mother of the kitten because itโs seen nursing in a few frames.
Animals get along with others from different species quite often.
Of course, this isnโt the only time animals of different species have been documented getting along with others. This article from 2018 explains the series of events where a Husky named Banner rescued a box full of freezing kittens in the woods.
There is another instance where a goose Hemmingway and a horse named Waffles took care of each other on a neglectful farm. These two were so inseparable that they needed to be adopted together! Their friendship is as adorable as it is unusual.
Another instance of strange animal friendships is shared between a donkey named Lily and a dog named Yoda. Lily and Yoda knew each other before they were rescued and they still care for each other on the farm they were relocated to after being rescued. Yoda likes to ride on top of Lily (which is so cute, by the way) and makes sure that his hooved friend is well taken care of.
Soโฆwhy DO animals of different species take care of each other?
In some cases, a mother miscarries and ends up adopting little babies whose mother is sick or dying so that they can fill their need to care for something. This is what happened with Banner and her box of kittens. This is a rather common instance known as fostering. Wildlife Refuges and Zoos take advantage of this phenomenon and use foster moms to prepare young and injured animals for reintroduction to the wild.
In other cases, the animals meet in dire circumstances and help each other through it. This is what happened to Hemmingway and Waffles. Itโs possible that the goose imprinted on the horse (as though he was his mother) early on and their friendship grew from there. But it is undeniable that these two have seen each other through a lot.
In the case of the video with the Husky and Cat Parents, wellโฆ.nobody knows. But it is adorable nonetheless. This little Fluff Family is one of the cutest animal families out there and I wish them all the happiness in the world as the little kitten grows up and gets into all sorts of mischief.
