Wild Horse Thanks His Savior With A Kiss
That is a 'thank you' this rescuer will never forget.

The wild horses of the Danube Delta in Romania are some of the last of their kind able to roam free in Europe. That freedom comes at a price. City Hall thought that they were multiplying too fast and decided to call on a few companies to find a solution.

The scandal of horse meat ties up to millions of pounds in the meat industry.

The practice is not humane.

Ovidiu Rosu, veterinarian for the Four Paws team spotted a wild horse trapped in the area. The horseโ€™s front legs were chained together, a way that these wild horses are often stopped from being able to run away.

This obviously creates huge discomfort and restrictions for the horses.

Ovidiu shoots the horse with a tranquilizer gun to put it to sleep. This is firstly for the horseโ€™s safety, so that it doesnโ€™t attempt to thrash or run and hurt itself while Ovidiu is at work, and of course itโ€™s also to protect Ovidiu.

They cover the horseโ€™s eyes when itโ€™s on the ground.

This is to keep the horse calm while Ovidiu is doing what he has to. Covering the eyes stops them from panicking. This horse has a good friend, who watches over it while Ovidiu gets to work.

The horse had chains around both of its front hooves.

This prevents the horses from running away. It also forces them to do a sort of hop which slows them down drastically. Slower horses means that theyโ€™re easier to catch and hunt.

Naturally, this is very painful for the horses and the chains can also cut into their skin and hurt their joints.

This heroic vet gets to work.

With a pair of pliers, the Four Paws vet begins working on the wires attaching the chains around the horseโ€™s ankles.

The poor horse was extremely restricted by the chains. Good thing that it was tranquilized, or Ovidiu would have one heck of a time removing these chains.

The horseโ€™s friends seem hesitant but are thanking Ovidiu.

Itโ€™s clear that the horse in chains had his friends out on the delta. Those friends remain close the whole time Four Paws is at work. They stand by protectively, and watch on, inspecting Ovidiu as he works on their friend.

It even seems as if theyโ€™re thanking him.

When the horse wakes up, the cloth is removed.

The horse stirs and as it wakes up, the cloth is removed. Heโ€™s drowsy but the sedative will wear off soon. Best part is he can roam free once again!

They stay around to make sure the horse can get up.

The job isnโ€™t done until they know that this horse is going to be fine, and that means even helping it stand up.

They tag the horse so they can keep track of it.

Thank goodness for these compassionate people who went out of their way to free this poor horse. Now he can run free with his friends again. Ovidiu and the Four Paws team get their heartfelt thanks from these grateful horses as well.
