That’s because we imagine hitmen from the movies we’ve seen, but those are only movies, the real-life hitmen aren’t always so smart. These five hesitant hitmen attempt to outsource the job, not once, not twice, but five times! Needless to say, they got caught!

It all started with a lawsuit from chinese businessman, Mr.Wei, he was suing a rival in the real-estate game, Tan Youhui. Tan was furious, but instead of simply fighting him in court, he decided he would just hire a hitman to get rid of him.

That’s when Tan went to Xi Guangan, offering the equivalent of $282,000 to “take care” of his problem. Xi jumped at the offer, that was too much money for him to pass up. When it came time for the murder, Xi got cold feet, so he enlisted the help of another hitman offering to split the money with.

The second hitman said yes, but he also got cold feet and reached out to a third hit man, promising him half of his half of the money.

It didn’t stop there, the third hitman was also too scared to actually carry out the killing, so he contacted the fourth hitman. By the time the forth hitman was hired, the $282,000 was now only the equivalent $28,000.

The fourth hitman didn’t have it in him either, he offered to split his 28,000 with a fifth and final hitman. What the fifth hitman did was unbelievable, he didn’t find another hitman, but he also didn’t kill Mr. Wei.

The fifth and final hitman approached Mr. Wei, convincing the businessman to fake his own death.

The fifth hitman, Ling Xinsi, left a note for Mr. Wei asking to him meet at a cafe in Nanning, China. In the meeting, Ling explained to Mr. Wei that he didn’t want to kill, but he would need to fake his own death to make it go away.

So the two men faked Mr. Wei’s death. They took pictures of him gagged, tied up, and appearing deceased. Ling then sent the pictures to Tan Youhui, to prove a job well done. The only problem, Mr. Wei wasn’t dead and he was about to flip the script on the hitman!

Mr. Wei changed his mind and went straight to the police. The five hitmen and Tan were all charged with attempted murder.

After thinking it over, Mr. Wei realized that he had to go to the police. He went to the authorities, telling them all about the murderous plot and faking his own death. The fifth hitman, Ling, wasn’t initially charged and the five men were acquitted in the first trial! With China’s 99% conviction rate, it’s no surprise that they quickly appealed the case.

Ling was charged in the second trial and all 6 men were found guilty of attempted murder. Tan got a 5-years, the harshest sentence for being the mastermind of the crime. The first hitman Xi was sentenced to 3 years 6-months, the second and third got 3-years 3-months, the fourth to 3 years and the fifth and final hitman got 2-years 7-months.
