Olive was a puppy just like any other. She loved to run, jump and play with her family, she was full of life.
But by the time she was just four months old, she became unsteady on her legs.
One day, on a visit to the park, her owner noticed Olive was limping a little bit, so she immediately took her to the vet.
They performed a whole gamut of tests including X-rays and MRIs, but all of Olive’s results came back normal.
To her owner’s shock and heartbreak, the doctors warned that even though they couldn’t find the cause of her problem, they would probably need to put Olive down. She stayed at the vet hospital over night.
Her owner was, of course, horrified by the idea and took Olive to the Belle Mead Animal Hospital in New Jersey.
This specialist hospital aims to provide top animal care and treat all their animals with compassion and kindness.
They weren’t going to be so quick to put Olive down, and wanted to get to the bottom of what was causing her injury and help treat it.
Olive had become paralyzed from the neck down, but after two weeks of some physical therapy, her front legs were moving again. Her back legs were still paralyzed, but the dedicated team didn’t give up on her.
Once she became paralyzed, she wasn’t able to wag her tail, she wan’t as affectionate and didn’t kiss her family anymore.
She stayed at the hospital 5 days a week, taking weekends at home with her family who never wavered on their optimism that she would get better.
Months later, her back legs were moving again, even though she wasn’t yet able to walk.
Olive would get support from her care givers, holding her up by a harness but encouraging her to do her best to walk on her own.
Slowly but surely, she made progress and her mobility was improving.
She was so excited about every step of progress she made, and worked hard with her care givers.
But her progress wasn’t always steady. Sometimes her condition would get worse, and her caregivers and family had no way of knowing if she would get better again.
But they never gave up.
They created devices that let her move along on her own, including this adorable pink support system. She wasn’t able to walk, but the wheels allowed her more independent mobility.

Eventually, she was able to run again with just the help of some fabric support under her belly.
She was taking her owners out, and moving so quickly it was a challenge for them to keep up with her!
Then one kind woman reached out and offered to donate her massage services to help Olive. Her owners were not so convinced, but were open to trying anything to help their girl get healthy.
To their surprise, after just three massage sessions, they saw a huge improvement in Olive’s health – she was basically walking on her own!
The massages got Olive back to normal, wagging her tail again and kissing her family. Her mobility has brought back all her joy, and her family couldn’t be happier to see her recover.
