Although tons of people happily adopt sheltered pets, this adorable pup wasn’t as lucky. The dog had already reached a somewhat old age of ten years old, and he spent over four years of those in a shelter. In almost his whole second half of his life, Dreadlock hadn’t found a forever home – but luckily, that was about to change.

Dreadlock first arrived at the Soi Dog Foundation in Thailand a couple of years ago, an international animal rescue organization who have already put major effort in combatting dog trade in the Asian continent and their volunteers have been fighting for animal rights and rescuing animals and dogs in general.

On their website, they stress a number of different holistic approaches. Focusing on rescue, sterilization, vaccination, medical treatment, shelter and adoption, the Soi Dog Foundation has already saved and improved the lives of literally thousands of dogs.

“Soi Dog Foundation (Soi Dog) was established in 2003 in Phuket, Thailand, to help the street dogs and cats who had no-one else to care for them. Over 50,000 strays roamed the island, with the numbers growing alarmingly due to a lack of sterilization (spay/neuter) programs to control the population. Soi Dog was created to provide a humane and sustainable solution to managing the stray population and to address their medical needs. Funding then, as it is now, came entirely from individuals who shared, and continue to share, the vision of our founders.”

Dreadlock was brought into the center and was in a much worse state than he is now. When he first arrived, the pup suffered from multiple severe skin conditions which are still visible to this day, although Dreadlock is luckily healthy again.

His entire coat was also filthy and matted, and the rescuers also named him after the way he looked when they first met him.

The caregivers in the shelter describe Dreadlock as a quite silent, placid and old dog who enjoys the serenity. Just like every other dog, Dreadlock can certainly appreciate a cuddle and walk from time to time, but he wasn’t regarded as an active dog. That all changed, however, when one of the Soi Dog Foundation volunteers told him that he had been adopted.

As you can see in the video below, Dreadlock shifts from a silent dog but quickly jumps and runs around in pure excitement. Dreadlock has found a forever home in the United Kingdom. How adorable!
