All Maddie wanted to know was some suggestions on what to make for her husband for lunch. They were getting tired of sandwiches.

She had no idea that she would be attacked by a barrage of other women for her small act of love and trying to spice up her lunch-making life.

She posted her question to fellow moms on the North Shore Mums Facebook page, a closed group with more than 26,000 members.

“I would love to hear what other mums make their hubbies for lunch and snacks throughout the workday. We are getting over sandwiches,” she wrote according to the Daily Telegraph.

She expected to get a few recipes, not be called “weird,” a “slave” or “1950s housewife,” which is what Daily Mail claims was posted in the group.

A group of women said that her husband should make his own darn sandwich.

“Our advice is to stop making his lunches,” one person wrote.

“I was married for twenty years and my favourite packed lunch for my husband was called a ‘Get it Yourself with a side order of I’m not your mother,'” said another.

“He was a grown single self-sufficient independent man before we met… why does he get lucky (aka get a slave) and I don’t?!?! It’s enough with our children, don’t need another child, need a husband!” exclaimed one woman.

While some of the comments were a little cruel and sarcastic, others actually made some pretty good points.

“Imagine how many men post FB threads asking for tips on ironing their ‘wifey’s’ blouse?” one group member asked.

But not all the comments were negative, some members of the group defended Maddie saying that making your partner something to eat is an act of love, not an act that is expected of a woman.

“I work and so does my husband and I love making his lunch,” one woman wrote. “We have been married 12 years and it is a nice way to let him know I care for him.”

Other women admitted to also making their husband’s lunches too and shared some lunch tips.

“Being caring is not a tradition, it is just being loving,” another said. “Nice to hear others do. He likes it when I cut up bread, cheese etc like an antipasto platter in his lunch box!”

“I think it’s a very lovely and kind gesture though acknowledge that not everyone may have the time and capacity to do so,” one member added. “Surely nice actions like these get reciprocated in happy marriages.”

Though it was nice to have support from other women, Maddie had a response of her own for the haters.

“Thank you so much ladies who did reply with helpful tips and advice. To the rest of you – you should be ashamed of yourselves. You have no idea what my husband does – he works in an extremely physically demanding job, he does housework, he cooks dinner every second night when I’m putting Bub to bed. He gets up in the middle of the night with our Bub. He is a champion. The least I can do is make him a bloody sandwich. I love my man, he deserves to eat lunch and we can’t afford to eat out. Also so I am not born in the 1950s considering I was born in 1995. When did it become a crime to look after your man…”

According to news.com.au, Maddie was “devastated” by some of the nastier comments posted on the page which was deleted by the page’s administrators.

Apparently, not everyone was abiding by one of the page’s five rules, which is to “Be nice. Treat people as you could in the real world.”
