The life of stray cats can be very uncomfortable, especially during the winter when the little animals often suffer from the terribly cold weather. Animal lover Şebnem Ilhan decided to do something to help out stray cats in her neighborhood.
Şebnem is a woman with a very large heart for animals in particular from Tekirdag, Turkey. Şebnem works as a dentist and although her home country doesn’t often deal with harsh winters, this past winter season had a lot more abnormally cold days than in other years.
Instead of letting stay cats suffer in the cold, Şebnem decided to do something about it.
She wanted to open up her house for the fuzzy street cats, but of course, couldn’t just leave her door open.
The kind-hearted woman quickly made up a plan that would allow stray cats to enter her warm and loving home without needing to go through the front door: so she built a so-called “cat ladder.”
“It is very cold here this winter. My housekeeper and I are living in the warmth. I was sad and worried about the cats outside,” Şebnem mentioned to Love Meow.
The small ladder construction looks adorable and she even made sure that it’d blend in nice with the exterior of her house. She even doubled the ladder as a nice space to put a few flowerpots, creating a truly warm and welcoming environment for the stray cats.
The ladder is attached directly to one of Şebnem’s windows, with an opening that is just large enough for the cats to fit through. Someone even captured a photograph of one of the cats going up the ladder to give the nice woman a quick hello.
It turns out that Şebnem spends a lot of her free time caring for animals. She’s especially concerned about stray animals, and she makes it her goal to care for and pet them. The stray animals in her city are truly gifted to have someone like Şebnem that looks out for them.
“I try to help all the animals that I can find as much as I can,” she said. “I don’t think I have done much at all. I try to make a difference for the animals that I touch and see.”
“I wish no animal is hungry or thirsty, just happy. This world is not just for people.”
What an amazing woman!
