Akbar Badshah from Bradford, United Kingdom, decided to take his wife to the Fazenda’s restaurant in Manchester to celebrate her birthday.

Unfortunately, when Akbar arrived at the restaurant, he was kicked out of the place and was told that he would have to wear something else than sandals to be allowed entry.

At the time, Akbar was wearing sandals even though his wife recommended him a change of footwear.

To make things even more annoying, Akbar was actually breaking his fastening from the Ramadan and as a result hadn’t eaten yet all day. Akbar shared his story in an interview with BBC 5 Radio.

“The [staff] said, ‘unfortunately we have to turn you away – do you have any spare shoes?’

“I said, ‘I don’t, I’ve driven an hour to get here, I’m starving, I’ve not eaten all day.'”

Unfortunately for Akbar and his wife Rozmin, they couldn’t have dinner at the restaurant simply because the man was wearing sandals.

After leaving the restaurant, the couple spotted a homeless man named John.

As it turned out, John actually had a pair of boots that he had just gotten from a local outreach seller.

At that moment, Akbar asked a small question to John and he was willing to help the couple out without a sweat.

“We had a little chat and I just asked John, ‘What shoe size are you?’,” the man recalls.

“He said, ‘I’m a 14,’ and I said, ‘I’m a size 9, I’m in a bit of predicament… can I borrow your shoes?’

“He goes, ‘Yes certainly, I’ll be happy to lend you my shoes.'”

After Akbar had received the boots from the homeless man, the couple was let into the restaurant and could enjoy their meal without any further issues.

John told him that he “just wanted to help another human being out”, even though the man definitely had other worries. Akbar said that John accepted a note of ten pounds as a ‘thank you’, but only after asking and insisting three times.

The quite remarkable interaction between Akbar and John was also overheard by another man, who then proceeded to hand the homeless man 50 British pounds for his trouble and willingness to help people. When he heard about this second act of kindness, Akbar called it ‘good karma’.

After sharing his story on the radio, Akbar hopes he can find the homeless man once again and invite him to have a meal together.
