We’ve all had our fair share of kitchen mishaps, whether it’s big or small. Sometimes you leave the chicken in the oven just a little too long, or accidentally let your pasta water boil over. We’ve compiled our top 75 kitchen nightmares that you’re lucky to have never experienced.

5. Someone Help Tinkerbell
Tinkerbell, is that you? We love the creativity, but this is a major pancake fail.
This one left us scratching our heads. First of all, what is that brown stuff? Second, and most importantly, how did that lid possibly get stuck in the ceiling? Your guess is as good as ours.
7. Painfully Puffed Pastry
As an idea, these little chicken buns are too cute. However, in execution, this is just plain awful. These chicken’s silent screams will haunt us forever.
8. Introducing the New Stucco Cooker!
Rice seems like one of the easiest things to cook – apparently not. It’s amazing in itself that these people were able to turn regular white rice into what looks exactly like stucco. New hardware hack?

We can see where they were going with this one. Almost. Spongebob looks like he may need a stint in rehab.
10. If you can’t take the heat…
One wife came home to discover that her husband had left their plastic cutting board on a hot burner. At least he apologized!
This has got to be one of the most heartbreaking kitchen fails of all time. Nothing is worse than losing all of your hard earned lasagna (aka “lasaga”) before you even get to try a bite.
12. Hate When This Happens
We’ve all been there – you’re trying to add just a little pinch of seasoning to your food and then the unthinkable happens. The top falls off, dousing your food in an inedible amount of pepper. Instant kitchen nightmare.
13. The Real Cookie Monster
The Cookie Monster has always been known as soft and lovable – until now, that is. It looks like our old friend has really let himself go. Literally, as in melting into a puddle.
The bad news in that he sliced right through and completely destroyed his cutting board. The good news is that he’s got one sharp knife there.
15. Spinach, Artichoke & Melted Plastic Dip
No, this is not an artsy casserole bowl. This is what happens when you mistake a plastic baking dish for a glass baking dish. The only question: how?
16. This kettle don’t whistle
This is what happens when you place an electric kettle on a burner. This little teapot is short and obliterated.
We’re amazed by the charred remains of this kitchen, as if it came straight out of a warzone. Who did this to you?
18. Excuse me while I go throw up
If you’ve ever wondered what steamed hot dogs look like, wonder no more. Also, prepare to never eat a hotdog again without thinking of this congealed pink sludge.
19. This is fine (and hilarious)
Ceramic should never go on a burner, just a little bit of advice. Though for this unlucky individual, they’ll have to live with their kitchen fail and ruined stew. Better luck next time!
20. You Stepped in Something…?
These sweet potatoes look like they fell in a pile of dog poop. We’re not even sure how anyone was able to achieve this. Consider us grossed out, but also deeply intrigued.
This Kraken-inspired pie is totally cool – if only the actual attempt looked even half as good. “A” for effort?
22. Young, Broke and Food-Poisoned
We know college can be rough, but we’re not sure if this is a cooking hack or a sure-fire way to get salmonella. Points for creativity, but next time, please just spend the extra buck on some clean skewers.
23. A Watched Pot Never Boils (but at least your pasta would be safe)
This is what happens when you don’t stir your pasta and let it stick to the bottom of the pot. A pretty impressive feat,, considering it looks like it basically happened to the whole box of pasta.
24. You Definitely Should Not Drink That. Seriously.
This person tried to melt M&M’s into their water. Why? We’re wondering the same thing.
Things rarely ever go to plan, especially these shark-inspired cupcakes. However, they are actually terrifying, so mission accomplished.
Is it just me or does it look like Rainbow Dash is on drugs? If only we could have seen the kids’ reactions to this birthday cake.
This is easily one of the worst kitchen nightmares, joking aside. This is why you always need to secure your cabinets to the wall properly and try not to overweigh them.
28. Someone’s On the Naughty List
Are these new trendy charcoal cookies? These would be the perfect stocking stuffer for anyone who didn’t make Santa’s nice list.
It’s an easy mistake – you’re cooking on an incredibly hot pan and happen to leave your very plastic and meltable fork on it. Everyone does it, right? …Right?
This is definitely an expression of artistic freedom, and you’ve got to love the crazed, beady stare. It’s hard to say if this recreation did accidentally end up being better than the original.
31. Deliberate or Just Dumb?
When this man told his girlfriend to peel half of their potatoes, she took him quite literally. We’re not sure if this is the greatest passive aggressive move, or just plain stupid.
When this husband decided to make cookies, he also decided to leave the cookie cutters on while he baked them. We’re just left wondering, does he actually know what a cookie cutter is for?
Ah, Jell-O. Sometimes it can be a great dessert, and other times it can be a great appetite deterrent. In this case though, we’re going with the latter.
34. I Can’t Believe it’s Butter – and Broken
Well, turns out that expression “like a knife through butter” may not be the most accurate. Maybe next time, try softening your butter? Or getting a better knife?
Let’s repeat it for the people in the back – ceramic should not go on an open flame. This is truly a kitchen fail.
According to the original poster, this is what happens when you add green food coloring to your guacamole to offset some of its natural yellow color. I think I’ll stick with a little yellow guac, rather than this monstrosity.
This little banana ghost is too cute. It’s only too bad that this attempt turned into a hot mess. It’s spooky all right, just not exactly on purpose.
38. A Tale as Old as Time
Do not put metal in your microwave. Do. Not. You’ve officially been warned. We’re just glad this isn’t our microwave.
39. Frosty, who did this to you?
They tried? We applaud the effort, but we both know they won’t be serving these cookies at their Christmas party.
When this person shared their “rainbow” mac n’ cheese, you just know that people will have some feelings. This looks wrong in so many ways.
41. Omelette à la Shards of Glass
We’re not even entirely sure how this happened. But we do know that this dish is now garnished with a lovely sprinkle of broken glass. Yum!
This is just a painful kitchen fail. How did someone let their food smoke that badly? We don’t envy the person who has to clean that up.
Our guess is that this person lives in a college dorm. This could either be a brilliant cooking hack, or an abysmal cooking failure.
44. The Right Way to Start Your Morning
The worst part is that the toast was *perfectly* toasted. Now, it’s perfectly ruined. Our sympathies go out to this poor kitchen failure.
Why? That’s really our only question. Why not just buy pre-made cookie dough, rather than painstakingly pick it out of your ice cream? This person must have really wanted cookies.
How did this person shatter their stovetop? I guess this person’s stove just couldn’t take the heat. Literally.
47. Soda Does Not Equal Slushee
A word to the wise: never put soda in your freezer. While it might seem like a genius way to make your own DIY slushees, you’re actually just going to get one giant mess.
Who hasn’t ever struggled to open a jar before? Who ever gave up and decided to just cut the bottom off? When you need your PB&J, you really need it.
49. A Thing of Nightmares
This person put their chicken nuggets on a plastic tray, which apparently turned into tar. Maybe they should just stick with fast food nuggets. We’re mostly just amazed that the nuggets weren’t totally destroyed.
Always check if your bowls are microwave safe. Seriously, always. You don’t want to end up like this person who somehow got a cool yet bizarrely perfect broken bowl.
We’re not even sure how this happened. Maybe some expired ingredients? That will be a total pain to clean, but we’re guessing it would have been a bigger pain to eat it.
52. When You Try Your Best
This person did not succeed. How is it even possible to mess up making coffee? The machine makes it for you.
53. These Cookies are Creepy All Right
The dough actually had so much potential. The result looks just ridiculous, and that’s why we’re glad this person decided to share their embarrassing yet hilarious kitchen fail.
Did this person just make green bean Cheerio casserole? This looks like a thanksgiving dish from your absolute worst nightmares. Let me just go wash my eyes real quick.
55. This is How the Cookie Crumbles
Everything looks better online than in real life. This seemingly easy way to make cookie cups turned into a complete disaster.
This pie could have been totally perfect and we feel for this person’s kitchen fail. Next time, really make sure you’ve got a good grip on that pie.

We can see what they were going for here. Almost. These Pikachu’s looks like they’re staring into my soul.
Have you ever seen something on Pinterest and thought, “I could do that!”, even though it ended up being awful? That’s the Pinterest effect. Beware, my friends.
If you’re tired of having regular, delicious and fluffy pancakes, try stirring them into a blackened scramble instead!
It seems like this person got a little too excited about their cake and filled it to the absolutely brim. Maybe next time, tone down your batter just a smidge.
According to the original poster, this person tried to store champagne in their freezer, next to their frozen meats. They ended up with a nightmarish mixture lurking in their freezer instead.
62. Mom Looks Unimpressed
When this husband tried to DIY his wife’s birthday cake, there were bound to be problems. This woman’s face says it all.
63. Microwave with Caution
No one likes exploding their food in the microwave. And yet, here we are. This is a kitchen fail we’ve all experienced, and definitely don’t envy.
64. When the can-opener was nowhere to be found.
Maybe this person doesn’t know that there’s this handy new invention that, with a few simple turns, opens a can for you called a can-opener. However, we’re impressed by this creativity.
65. Disgusting yet Innovative
There’s also another handy invention called a strainer that gets rid of the water for you. In desperate times, desperate measures must be taken, I guess? We’re just hoping they washed their racket first.
We’re guessing this person just forgot about their snacks…for several hours. Frankly, we more impressed that these fries and nuggets kept their shape and didn’t totally turn into ash.
We’re not sure what’s sadder – the fact that Ben thought he was getting better at cooking, or that his pasta literally transformed into a frisbee. Sorry Ben!
No need to poo-poo these croissants – they already look like it. We’re hoping their next attempt looked significant more…appetizing.
At first glance, this looks like an adorable baby with a little sprinkling of snow. Nope, that’s baking flour. Looks like poor junior got right into the line of fire on this kitchen fail.
70. Shattered Dreams & Dishes
This is why we don’t microwave bacon. Ever.

Oh, Carolyn. Brussel sprouts are already unappealing, especially when they’ve been torched beyond recognition. We didn’t think it was actually possible to make them more revolting.
We’re counting our lucky stars that these kitchen nightmares don’t happen in our kitchen.
