Is every DIY project deemed “farmhouse chic”? If you’ve ever watched even just an hour of HGTV, you’ll see that farmhouse is very in right now.
Every episode of Fixer Upper features shiplap and farmhouse sinks and tables. But these hot home trends can be costly.
The best way to keep your house up to date with the latest looks is by doing some DIY projects. Rather than buying a $700 farmhouse table, why not try to build your own?
Just check out The Rehab Life, a popular YouTube channel where two property rehabbers share all of their easy-to-do projects.
In this video, the woman creates a $50 farmhouse table, which is a fraction of the cost that these tables sell for at retail cost. If you just bought a table, you might want to return it and try to create this at home!
It might not be the easiest DIY project, but if you’ve ever worked with wood before, you should be able to follow along.
For this project, the lumber and materials you will need are:
- One 4″x4″ x10ft
- Three 1″x4″ x10ft
- Two 1″x8″ x8ft
- One 1″x10″ x10ft
- Two 2″x3″ x8ft
- 2″ finishing nails
- 2″ wood screws
- 5″ wood screws
- Stain
- Polyurethane
- Wood glue
The tools you’ll need are:
- Sanding block
- Miter saw
- Drill
- Impact driver
- Uline tape measure
The DIY video shows you exactly how to cut the wood in order to build a 72l x 37w x 30h farmhouse table that costs about $50.
This project isn’t something you need to be an expert for! So long as you’re able to pay close attention to the video, you can easily make this at home.
The woman carefully measures each piece of wood, before cutting it, and then placing them together to create the farmhouse table.
The video does come with the disclaimer that their lumber is purchased as a local Midwest chain store. They typically use pine wood for their DIY videos. Though they want anyone recreating this DIY to know that prices may vary, depending on where they live.
One person commented on YouTube, saying:
