When the all-female musical group Scala walked onto the set of Britain’s Got Talent, it was easy to see that they had “the look.” However, it takes a lot more than that to impress the competition’s judges – not to mention, the viewers at home.
Scala isn’t your typical rock band or singing group. Interestingly enough, they are actually an electric string quartet from London, England.
Not all of us dream of being in the spotlight or becoming a star. But for those who do, show like The X Factor, American Idol, and the Got Talent series are platforms that have helped launch many artists into successful careers.
It was Scala’s hope to make it big in the world of music. Before their audition, the women (aged 23-26) gave a little bit of background on where they came from.
“We met on tour as part of a big orchestra about two years ago, and we got along really well as mates and started to form a group.”
Another member explained:
“We spent our whole lives working – hours of practice every day for years and years. So we just want to break through and make it.”
The ladies of Scala took the stage wearing tight purple dresses and high heels. They were also carrying unique-looking instruments, which sparked the judges’ curiosity.
Now, an electric string quartet isn’t an act that you see every day. But it’s surely one that the crowd will never forget.
All four members (Victoria, Chantal, Tasya, and Izzy) broke into a techno rendition of ‘Palladio,’ by composer Karl Jenkins. The violinists played with intensity, while the cellist rocked her instrument as well.
During their electrical performance, the women had a couple of moves too. At one point, they stomp their heels on the ground in unison making plenty of eyes light up.
Watching the reactions on everyone’s faces (especially the male judges) showed evidence of how much Scala’s performance was being enjoyed. Simon seemed very intrigued or maybe even speechless…
Once their song came to an end the ladies lifted their bows into the air. Immediately, the audience soared to their feet for a standing ovation.
Since the women were used to playing in the background of groups and orchestras, receiving such a huge response was unreal. Scala member, Chantal, later explained to Daily Mail in an interview:
“And when you’re playing classically, the reaction is never anything above polite applause. So getting a standing ovation… I’ve never experienced that on stage before.”
The judges too were blown away by the performance with Simon calling them “incredible” and Amanda saying they were “phenomenal.” By no surprise, they received three “yeses.”
It’s a chilling act that stands out from the rest. The YouTube video below alone has more than 14 million views. Not bad for a group of friends, turned electric string quartet!
People have shared comments online such as:
“Oh my word! I can’t wait to get my first violin & to start practicing to sound like these talented ladies!!! Love this!!!!!”
Another viewer wrote:
“They should rename their group to THE SIRENS because watching and hearing them is mesmerizing.”
After becoming finalists on the show, the group went on to find great success.
It’s a spine-tingling audition that went viral. Be sure to watch it for yourself below!
