Malinda Herman is a rising internet star from Thailand that’s known for creating musical covers with her pets by her side. One that has people falling head over heels is her rendition of “I Can’t Stop Loving You.”
Not only does the 70-year-old singer’s performance show off her incredible talent – but combined with an adorable Chihuahua? It’s a video that puts the biggest smile on your face.
Many wouldn’t pick Herman out of the crowd as being someone who’s a viral sensation. But in fact, the Bangkok resident has more than 170,000 followers on Facebook and a YouTube channel full of popular videos.
While many performers strive to become loved by fans all over the world, this “hipster grandma” didn’t begin singing covers with that goal in mind.
For Herman, music was a form of therapy after a devastating situation.
She explained to Coconuts Bangkok:
“I got into an accident about 20 years ago where my car flipped over. The impact from the collision damaged my nerves and the left side of my face became paralyzed. I felt really terrible after the accident. For about two years, I didn’t let anyone see my face, I was ashamed.”
Herman refused to do surgery and instead focused on regaining movement in her face with vocal exercises. But it was after she starting singing that she experienced the most progress.
2016 is when she began posting musical videos on the YouTube channel she created. At this point, Herman feels she’s about 75% recovered.
People aren’t the only ones who love Herman’s music, her pets do too.
If you had someone serenading you with an instrument and their beautiful voice all the time – life would be pretty sweet right? Prepare to become jealous of Herman’s tiny dog, “Jiw Jam,” who accompanies her in many of her performances.
Get ready for cuteness overload. Herman’s cover of Don Gibson’s “I Can’t Stop Loving You” is heart-melting, to say the least.
In the video, we get a very up-close view of Jiw Jam as Herman strums the guitar and sings. The dog shifts between enjoying the performance and drifting off to sleep. Can you blame her? Herman’s dreamy voice is quite relaxing.
As much as people get great pleasure out of Herman’s videos, she’s happy to spread joy to others.
She told Coconuts Bangkok:
“People are so stressed nowadays, I wanted to do something that could help them relax and feel better.”
Herman’s cover of “I Can’t Stop Loving You” has been viewed more than a million times in the short while it’s been posted.
