You never know who is going to see a viral Facebook post.
Sometimes, a viral post is seen by the exact right person. That’s just what happened with a post about an elderly dog named Jaripo who desperately needed a new forever home.
Jaripo’s former owner dropped the eighteen-year-old Pomeranian off at the busy Lancaster County Animal Shelter. Jaripo’s owner told the shelter workers that Jaripo was terminally ill and needed to be put down. Before putting him down, the shelter workers decided to write a Facebook post about Jaripo, hoping that someone would rescue the poor dog.

The post was widely shared, but nobody came for Jaripo. Finally, a woman named Christina Morgan saw the post. Morgan is the founder of Paw Works, an animal rescue organization based in Ventura County, California. Paw Works rescues animals from city and county shelters and helps them find forever homes. When Morgan saw the post about Jaripo, she knew that she had to rescue him and bring him into her organization.
“I get tagged in a lot of stuff on Facebook and I saw that this little (dog) was breaking the internet,” Morgan told The Dodo. “Lots of people were tagging me. All the rescues were looking at it. But no one was really taking action – and that’s a high-kill shelter.”
Morgan jumped into her car and drove towards the shelter. She called to tell the shelter staff that she was on her way. They told her that they could not guarantee that Jaripo would still be there when she arrived. They said that if they needed to put Jaripo sleep, they would.
Morgan drove as fast as she could through the pouring rain. Thankfully, when she arrived at the shelter, Jaripo was waiting for her. She took him home that day.
Morgan didn’t just take Jaripo, though. She also took home four other dogs and a cat with a bullet wound.
Once Morgan and her new rescues arrived back at Paw Works, she took Jaripo over to a veterinarian. The vet said that Jaripo did have some pain in his spine and hips, but his blood tests came back strong, and he wasn’t terminally ill like his previous owner had said. The old pup still had a lot of life left in him.
A few days after the rescue, Paw Works announced on their Instagram page that Jaripo had found his forever foster family. Jaripo loves hanging out with the humans and the other dogs in his big new family.
Morgan and the Paw Works team have made an amazing difference in so many dogs’ lives, including Jaripo’s. You can find out more about the life-saving work that Paw Works does here. If you’d like to support Paw Works’ animal rescue efforts, consider donating to their organization.
