Dementia “a chronic or persistent disorder of the mental processes caused by brain disease or injury and marked by memory disorders, personality changes, and impaired reasoning.” and it affects over 50 million people worldwide.

As if dementia is not sad enough, the degenerative disease has some very tough side effects.

Many people suffering from dementia struggle with anxiety, loneliness, mood swings, and nervousness.

One woman is working to help change the lives of dementia patients.

Many dementia patients suffer from the side effects and don’t often get enough human interaction to help combat these issues.

But one way that seems to be proven time and time again to make a huge impact on the lives of those with dementia is giving them a companion doll.

Sandy Cambron just made some people’s lives a whole lot better.

Shannon Gray Blair shared what Sandy does for dementia patients with Love What Matters and it is truly moving.

“I can promise you that no matter what you got for Valentine’s Day, mine was way bigger and better than anything you could ever imagine. A few weeks ago, I told you about my dear friend and co-worker Sandy Cambron that gave my mom and her roommate babies. Today she delivered 28 babies and four puppies to mom’s entire unit.

After Sandy’s mother-in-law passed away from complications from Alzheimer’s disease, she and her husband, Wayne, began to deliver baby dolls to memory care units.

Then Shannon, Sandy’s close friend, had to put her own mother into a care facility as she is suffering from Alzheimer’s. When Sandy found out, she asked if she could make a doll for Shannon’s mother and her mother’s roommate at the facility.

Shannon hadn’t expected the emotional reaction the dolls would get and she told Sandy the entire story in tears (happy ones of course).

Sandy decided to one-up things and return to the memory care unit with 28 more dolls and four stuffed puppies.

Shannon shared photos of the dementia patients with the dolls on her personal Facebook along with a caption. She wrote:

Today she delivered 28 babies & 4 puppies to mom’s entire unit. I was honored when she asked me to help. I have no words for what I experienced today. I’m amazed by her passion for those affected by dementia/Alzheimer’s. I’m also amazed at how much she loves me. Thank you Sandy for making such a difference & sharing your beautiful heart with so many people today. It’s a day I will never forget.

These dolls are part of Pearl’s Memory Babies, which is a group to help those with Alzheimer’s/dementia by gifting them with babies dolls and puppies.
