Volunteers at this Ukrainian animal shelter had just rescued a large blue-eyed stray dog.
His scrawny and mangy body was a clear indication that he had not been living a good life.
When they brought him in, they cleaned him up as best as they could and took photos of him. They posted his photos online as soon as they could because they wanted him to be re-homed quickly.
They were hopeful but worried at the same time.
The dog wasn’t in the best health condition and it would take a while before he could feel better again. But something in his eyes struck a chord in the people.
A few hours later, this dog’s post was shared hundreds of times all over the world.
Two days later, they got a call from a woman who had her dog stolen from her yard in 2017. She saw the dog’s photo and was really surprised at the similarities the dog had with her dog.
According to Galina Lekunova, the veterinarian at the shelter, the woman had “been looking for her dog for two years.” They weren’t sure, of course, but there’s only one way to find out, right?
They set up an appointment so the woman can come visit the shelter and the dog. Because that’s really the only way to make sure that he’s the same dog.
The next day, the woman arrived and they brought her to the spot where the dog stays.
The woman stayed back as she tried to assess the dog if he was really the same dog. The dog tried to also come closer and sniff out the woman.
Eventually, the woman couldn’t resist and she laid a hand on the dog’s head to pet him.
It wasn’t a big deal at first and she kept petting him. Eventually, the dog smelled the woman’s scent. He reached for her hand and got up on his legs to kiss her on the face.
It was him!
The woman said his name is Lord and she had been looking for him for two years.
Lord could not stop kissing the woman and hugging her.
The woman was smiling and crying at the same time. They were finally reunited after two years!
They took a video of the wonderful reunion and posted it on the Facebook page with thanks to everyone who shared Lord’s photo.
“Fantastic Monday! Tears of joy in the morning! Our unfortunate blue-eyed Alabai found the previous owners! It turns out that the guy was stolen from the yard two years ago. All this time, the owners were looking for him, posted photos in groups. And here it is – a miracle. Thanks to your reposts, the dog was seen by a family friend living in Australia !!! I called the owners and they rushed for their treasure!” they wrote in the caption. “Now Lord (yes, another Lord) will be fine! Well, we thank everyone who made [reposted the photo] because it was thanks to you that the dog’s life was saved, and peace returned to the soul of the owners!”
