Sometimes our spouses can be downright dense.

They are capable of some serious facepalming actions.

Those actions can range from trivial to marriage wrecking.

Either way, those actions can elicit some pretty strong reactions from the other spouse, whether it was trivial or marriage wrecking.

Reactions that involve revenge.

โ€œRevenge exists for a reason to keep people from taking advantage of you. If someone punches you, youโ€™re going to punch them back,โ€ David Chester, a professor of psychology and Virginia Commonwealth University who studies revenge, told Fatherly. โ€œSo itโ€™s protective and serves as a deterrent to keep other people from harming you. But it can go awry.โ€œ

When a spouse cheats, it can activate an ancient part of their partnerโ€™s brain the amygdala, which warns of a threat, and the ventral striatum, which offers the pleasure that comes with reaction.

The prefrontal cortex, which is responsible for self-control and social behavior, then decides how to react.

A prefrontal cortex that is impaired from something like injury, lack of sleep, intoxication, or hunger can weaken its self-control response and cause one to submit to urges of revenge.

โ€œWhat we are finding is that the part of the ventral striatum or the reward region of the brain was most active when people were seeking against their romantic partner,โ€ Chester said. โ€œIt shows that revenge can be particularly sweet if itโ€™s against a romantic partner. Weโ€™re still not sure why that would be but this data is very preliminary and unpublished.โ€

Thankfully, the husbands featured on Steve Harveyโ€™s TV show didnโ€™t commit any violations as serious as infidelity.

But their wives wanted to take revenge nonetheless.

While hilarious, these reactions may not be indicative of a healthy relationship.

Especially if that act of revenge is blasted on social media.

โ€œRevenge is not a good motivation in the context of a long-term romantic relationship,โ€ Chester said.

Still, you canโ€™t help but laugh at the reactions of their wives.

โ€œFor some people, itโ€™s just never easy to apologize. But for some wives, even when their men say โ€˜Iโ€™m sorry,โ€™ sometimes it just wasnโ€™t good enough. Some wives want to go a little further. It ainโ€™t โ€˜Iโ€™m sorryโ€™ its โ€˜I want a little revenge for this one right here,'โ€ Harvey tells his audience.

These women put their husbands on blast on social media, making them hold up signs explaining their indiscretions.

Like one man whose sign read, โ€œI borrow my wifeโ€™s car so I donโ€™t have to put gas into my car,โ€ and another that said โ€œI ask my wife every. single. day. where this hat is (like sheโ€™s the one who wears it.โ€

Harveyโ€™s audience was in hysterics. Until they saw a sign that said, โ€œOne year I got my wife gloves for Christmas. That was it.โ€

That sign got a lot of gasps.

โ€œBoy, no you didnโ€™t,โ€ Harvey said, keeling over with laughter.

But the kicker came with โ€œI pretended I had chest pains so I could stay home and avoid going to the mall with my wife.โ€
