When a scientist named Nan dived into the water, this whale would not leave her side. It kept following her and pushing her and naturally, she freaked out.
โThat whale was intent on keeping me away and hiding me,โ Nan said. โI didnโt know why,โ she continued, explaining that it was just impossible to get away from it.
โHe came right for me, he didnโt stop. He kept pushing me and I was like โwoah, woah!'โ the scientist said with a laugh, looking back on the moment that was scary at the time.
Footage of her in the water with the whale is shown. We can see Nan touch and push the whale, but nothing happens. He simply will not budge or go away. She even tried going away herself but somehow, it kept coming back.
It turns out, though, that there was a reason for the unexplained madness.
โHe put his eye next to my eye, so I was like, โWhat is going on here?'โ The whale continued to push her through the water.
โHe didnโt wanna hurt me. He had me on his head and he rolled me over and I was on his chin and then I was down his pectoral finโฆ And he wouldnโt leave me alone!โ She exclaimed.
โHe wouldnโt stop! I was really scared. I mean, who wouldnโt be scared? Rolling around and rolling down the back of a whale? I kept thinking, โGet me out of here.'โ
But finally, she began to realize exactly what was going on.
Then the whale lifts Nan up on his pec fin and the woman is quite literally out of the water. Nan begins to yell at everyone on her boat above water, which is not too far away, screaming for help. She ends up being there for ten and a half minutes and then she saw the shark.
In a clip recorded of the moment, Nan is seen saying, โThereโs a great big tiger shark over there.โ
Later on she realized that the whale was in fact protecting her from the lurking great big tiger shark that entire time. โThe whale got me to the boat, heโs making sure that Iโm okay,โ she said.
โI got to the back of the boat and I was just laughing, but it was sort of a nervous laugh, like โI lived through this? Why did this happen to me?'โ
โThis is crazy and Iโve been doing this for 28 years,โ she continued. Nan is actually a research scientist who has dedicated her entire life to protecting whales, so maybe the whale sensed that and wanted to return the favor!
โThey call me the Whale Witch,โ she shared with a smile. โIโve had a lot of great encounters and close encounters,โ she saidโฆ Yet, there has never been an experience quite like this.
