Performance arts, such as singing, dancing, and music playing, can touch the hearts of all who witness it. In a recent video, a street violinist and a professional dancer got together for an impromptu performance that had everyone mesmerized.
A woman joins a violinist’s performance
The video begins as a violinist plays on the street in Italy. As he performs “Comptine d’un Autre Eté: l’Après Midi,” from the film Amélie, a young woman steps away from the crowd. With encouragement from her family, she begins to dance.
Dancer Rima Baransi
Unknown to the crowd, the young woman is Palestinian dancer and choreographer Rima Baransi. Baransi and her family were visiting Italy when they encountered violinist Ivo Remenec as he played on the side of the street. In the background of the video, you can hear Baransi’s father encouraging her to dance along to the music.
“C’mon Rima! C’mon! Here I am filming, c’mon Rima for God’s sake! For my sake! For my sake! C’mon start!” her father Assad pleads with her.
Violinist Ivo Remenec
Slovak violinist, Remenec, has been playing on the streets of Trieste, Italy when Baransi and her family show up. As the young lady steps out of the crowd, the two bow their heads to each other.
Baransi becomes a part of the music
Then, as Remenec continues to play, Baransi joins in, stepping out of her shoes and spinning to the music. As a crowd gathers to watch, Baransi seems to get lost in the music, each musical not leading her into her next dance move. Seemingly in sync with Remenec’s playing, the music seems to flow through her.
Fortunately, Baransi’s father was able to capture the inspiring moment on video. After posting it on YouTube, the video ended up with over 9 million views. In addition, the video has touched the hearts of people around the world.
The video sparked future performances together
In reaction to the popularity of the video, the two were invited to perform together again, once in 2017 and then again in 2018. Of one of those performances, Baransi had this to say:
“To dance is to reach for a word that doesn’t exist,
To sing the heart song of a thousand generations,
To feel the meaning of a moment in time.
The dance is over, the applause subsided, but the feeling will stay forever.”
One YouTuber loved the original video so much that he edited it to stabilize the footage so that it was easier to watch, stating in the video’s description:
“By doing this and then sharing my fixed version of the video in a few key social media sites I also hoped to help this awesome and magical performance be seen by more people.”
