It’s a sad fact that school lunches aren’t free, leaving low-income families across the nation struggling to keep up with yet another bill. You would think schools are required to make sure students get all the nutrients a rapidly growing adolescent needs, but they’re not. That’s why selfless people like this awesome lowrider club, come together to do what they can to help. They recently paid off $1,000 elementary school lunch debt!
The Lodi Vintage Touch Car Club is a lowrider club who did an incredible thing right before Christmas last year
As proud members of their community, the lowrider club is always looking for ways to help. So when they came across a real problem within the local elementary school, naturally, they wanted to help.
The lowrider club learned that parents at an elementary school in Woodbridge, CA, were having trouble paying for school lunches. That’s when they decided to step in and do something that would make a huge difference.
After learning about the $450 outstanding lunch bill parents had racked up, the car club paid it off and even went step further
The generous group not only paid off the $450 dollar cafeteria bill, but they also donated an extra $550 for lunches in the new year. That’s enough to make sure no kids are hungry at lunch for the rest of the year and some!
The Lodi Vintage Touch Car Club is well known in their community and has done stuff like this before. In an interview with ABC News, one of the members explained why they do it.
“We’re a giving club, that’s it. I mean, we all pretty much family, everybody helps out everybody,” said club member, Raul Valenzuela.
The lowrider club plans to take it a notch further, you won’t believe what they’re planning on doing
After the holiday season, the Lodi Vintage Touch Car Club plans on starting a fundraiser to pay off all lunch debt for the Lodi Unified School District. Over 16 million kids in America, live in households with insufficient means. This means 1 in 5 kids in the US goes hungry at some point during the year.
“We try to get together to do a lot of stuff to help the community because we do want people to know it’s not just the whole stereotype, we want to help out, too,” Explained Felicia Ramirez, from Car Clubs Unite.
It will take about $35,000 to pay off the lunch debt’s in the school district, but the lowrider club is confident they can pull it off
How amazing is that!? 35,000 dollars is a substantial amount, for this lowrider club to do this says a lot. I’m sure that the kids who are going to have the food they need will be extra grateful.
The Lodi Vintage Touch Car Club shows us all how communities should stick together. If any child is hungry at school, we should all treat that child as if they were ours. To see the inspiring story for yourself, watch the video below!
