Even if you don’t know your neighbors well, there is an unspoken camaraderie between those who share a neighborhood. They are there to share a cup of sugar or lend a helping hand in an emergency.

And sometimes neighbors will pass along a gift that means so much that it can never be repaid.

Brittany Lynn Garrett found out last year that she had neighbors like that. Brittany’s then-husband Spc. Christopher Garrett was a combat engineer with the U.S. Army’s 10th Mountain Division. According to Newsner, Christopher was shot in the stomach during a mission in Afghanistan.

His injury forced him to retire from the army as he was considered to be 100 percent disabled. Despite this, Christopher tried to slip back into civilian life as best as he could.

So, he would use an old school push lawn mower to mow his lawn once or twice a week, even though it was painful for him to do so.

One day Brittany found her husband weeping at her doorstep and she immediately started to think the worse.

“As I was getting ready for my day, my husband appeared at the door with tears in his eyes holding our son,” she wrote in a Facebook post, according to FOX 5 Atlanta. “My heart sank and I thought someone we love took a trip to Heaven.”

But there wasn’t any bad news. In fact, there was very good news and the tears she saw were tears of joy.

“He quickly assured me that no one had died, but someone had just given him a very expensive riding lawn mower!” she wrote. “I don’t know who they are, but they have been watching my 100% combat-disabled husband push mow our entire yard once or twice a week, and thought this would help make more time for the important things in life!!”

One of his neighbors bought him a brand new John Deere riding lawn mower.

With the mower was a note that read:

“I hope this saves time for the things that matter most in your life. Thank you for your service and for my freedom. Sincerely, A grateful American.”

Thanks to the kindness of neighbors and gratitude for those who have served in the military, Christopher would be spared from his weekly bouts of pain and was able to regain time back into his weekly schedule.
