People can be so cruel sometimes.
Itโs hard to understand why people take such unthinkable actions out on poor defenseless animals, but it happens all too often.
Tommyโs life used to be pretty normal for a stray cat. He wandered around as he pleased. He came to the same familyโs backyard regularly to get some food and maybe a little taste of love.
But one day, that family found Tommy in a terrifying state.
It appeared that someone had thrown acid on him and left him to suffer and die. Luckily for Tommy, he made it out of the encounter alive. Even luckier, the family took him to the vet immediately โ they werenโt about to let their little visitor go out like this.
When he got to the vetโs office, things werenโt looking good. He was in a lot of pain and recovery would be intense. He also tested positive for feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV).
However, the family was determined to keep Tommy around. They reached out to a place called Miloโs Sanctuary. Lo and behold, they were on board to save this precious boy.
Recovery was indeed a process. He required lots of antibiotics and skin grafts. Itโs always so sad to think of an animal going through something like this. They have no idea whatโs happening to them except that theyโre in a lot of pain.
But, you would never know it from the way he behaved through the whole thing. He was always calm and sweet towards the people around him in spite of the pain he was in.
Michele Hoffman, president of Miloโs Sanctuary, said that
โWhen I brought him home, I slept many nights in the bathroom with him making sure he wasnโt in pain or scared. He never stopped purring or loving people through all of his injuries, hospitalization, surgeries and recovery.โ
Now, he looks a little bit different from other cats, but he doesnโt know or care! Heโs so happy to have made it out of this horrific incident alive and even happier that he now has humans that love and care for him all the time.
He lives permanently at Miloโs Sanctuary because of some lingering issues from the injuries he sustained, but he couldnโt be happier.
He loves to meet new people that come in to visit, and he really loves tuna flakes. Oh, the things heโll do for some tuna flakes!
These days, on his Instagram, Tommy likes to raise awareness about animal cruelty. He may not notice that heโs different, but his appearance is a stark reminder of the terrible things some people will do to animals, just for the heck of it.
