Adopting a rescue dog is not always the easiest task, but it is so worth it. Often times, rescue dogs are timid and scared because they come from challenging pasts and lots of struggles. But hopefully, they make it to a brand-new family who is much kinder to them.
This family adopted a very sweet rescue dog and thankfully, they showed him what a safe and loving environment looks like. But what is so incredible about this story is how much progress the little pup made.
This little puppy, named Charlie Brown, was so scared that he could not even walk.
After being rescued by Lake Erie Labrador Retriever Rescue, Charlie went to a loving family where one of the women, Bailey, helped train him.
“It almost seemed like he didn’t even know how to be a dog,” she told The Dodo. “We picked him up to foster him during quarantine after he was rescued from a puppy mill where he had lived his entire life.”
When they first brought him home, his tail would barely even wag. When they tried to take him for walks, he would collapse in fear and immediately lie in a pancake position. He was gentle but very timid and shy, which made it hard to get through to him.
The family brought him home and they were excited to see if and how his behaviors would change over the next few weeks.
“When we got him into the house, he was pretty unsure,” the family said.
Most of their walks together were spent trying to get Charlie up and off of the ground. It was such a new and unfamiliar process to him.
One week in and the family confirmed that Charlie had been getting a little bit better every day. By Day 12, he was doing things like learning how to sit.
Charlie was also introduced to his brother — Bailey’s other rescue, Belle. They were home because of quarantine, so the dogs all had the chance to play together. Charlie wanted to play, but it seemed like he didn’t really know how.
A few more days in and the family went to go outside. To their pleasant surprise, Charlie came out to go find them. His tail was finally wagging, too! He looked extremely content and soon, he was walking with a pep in his step.
“For the first time, he decided to play with a toy,” his mama shared after a few more days. “Are you so excited? Good boy!” She praised.
After about four weeks of having Charlie, their family confirmed that he turned into a completely different dog, for the better.
Now he loved going for walks and he didn’t fall into pancake whenever he got anxious.
“Him and Belle have been trying to figure out how to play with each other and they are very, very close,” they added.
“Today is a big day because… We’ve decided to keep him forever and ever,” the family proudly announced at the end of the month. “We love you, Charlie Brown.”
“He fit in super well with our family,” they added. “And we just couldn’t see him going anywhere else so we were really excited.”
They went on to explain that Charlie was very smart and very gentle. And they knew in their hearts that he was going to be a very good and special dog to have.
Thanks to the Clement family for believing in this beautiful pup, and check out more footage of his adventure below!
