There’s no doubt the internet loves great wedding dance videos.
In it, the bridal couple showed off their moves to the classic song “Time of My Life,” performing the dance routine made famous by Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. But there’s no mistaking the fact that they’re really, REALLY good dancers.
It turns out, there’s a reason for that.
“My husband used to be a salsa dancing instructor and he convinced me to learn shortly after we first met,” explained the bride, Rachel Viramontes. “Through dancing together, we found an amazing chemistry which is why dancing has always had a special place in our hearts.”
In her short white dress, Viramontes spun, cha-cha’d, and even performed the famous lift with her husband leading the way.
“For our wedding, we knew we wanted to do something extra special, so we decided to do a SURPRISE performance of the final dance from Dirty Dancing – Time of My Life – and we even had some of the bridal party members join us!!” said Viramontes. “The reaction of our guests and hearing them sing along to the song was priceless! Also, the perfect ending was transitioning to the Black Eyed Peas song – The Time (Dirty Bit) and having all of our guests (literally ALL) on the dance floor to really kick off the reception and dancing the night away!”
Wedding dance videos are in a league of their own when it comes to viral content.
Just take the classic video “JK Wedding Entrance,” uploaded all the way back in 2009. It showed the wedding entrance of the bridal party of couple Kevin Heinz and Jill Peterson. But instead of a normal wedding entrance, the bridal party — and bride — danced down the aisle to Chris Brown’s pop hit “Forever.”
In 48 hours, the video had collected almost four million views.
In the 10 years since their wedding, Heinz and Peterson’s wedding video has accrued 98 million views. It was so popular that it even has its own Wikipedia page and was parodied on the sitcom “The Office.” Time Magazine placed it on its official list of the 50 greatest YouTube videos as well.
By the way, if you’re a fan of “The Office,” take a peek in the back of the church during the “Niagara” episode, during which the parody takes place.
You’ll see Heinz and Peterson sitting in the pew. They were invited by the crew to be on set on the day of filming, and it’s only appropriate. People have responded strongly to their wedding video, with popularity only gaining since the “Office” parody.
Ten years on, the couple is still together and they now have three children — but it seems like they’ll never live down their wedding video fame.
We can’t speak to the “Dirty Dancing” couple, but we hope that they’re still as happy as they were the day they got married.
