Yeah, it is as disgusting as it sounds, the thought of it alone could make one feel nauseous. The video of this teenage girl licking a tongue depressor, then putting it back as if nothing happened went viral online; this led to her mother’s arrest. This gross act took place in a doctor’s office in Jacksonville, Florida.
Her mother, 30-year-old Cori Ward, admitted recording the video and posting it on Snapchat, authorities say. Which presumably means she supported her daughter’s unacceptable behavior. She has been charged with a felony, tampering with consumer products without regard for possible death or bodily injury and she faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted.

“I had just been waiting for a long time. I was just silly with my kids; it’s ruined my life right now. That’s how I feel at least”, Ward said in an interview with CNN affiliate WJXT. Ward also claimed that she removed the tongue depressor and other items surrounding it after filming the video, which could be a truth or a lie.
The hospital did its part in ensuring sanity as they immediately removed all materials from the room for thorough investigation upon notification of the incident. Furthermore, they re-sanitized their entire facility. Luckily for Ward, their internal investigation does not reveal any resulting harm to patients from her action.
It is a common occurrence lately – This is a new trend that has had people (mostly young people) doing questionable things and documenting them online. They would go into grocery stores, open a container of ice cream at random, lick the top, put it back in the freezer and then walk away. Oh, and they upload a video of the entire grotesque display on social media for all to see. The #IceCreamChallenge, it’s accepted nick, is one of many social media trends over the past couple of years.

The most famous case of the #IceCreamChallenge happened in June in a Walmart in Lufkin, Texas. A young woman is seen in a twitter video with over 11 million views, licking the top of a new ice cream bowl then putting it back in the freezer. The Police later identified the culprit and her boyfriend. This freezer felony could land her in jail for up to 20 years.
There is also another case of a man; he got arrested with an allegedly recording which pointed him out pulling out a carton of Ice Cream from a freezer. Opened it, licking the dessert and poking it with his finger before putting it back on the shelf. The culprit has also been arrested and charged. So if you thought this was the next viral sensation, you would only be risking years in prison.
This antisocial behavior might get out of hand if not appropriately controlled. Teens are doing it to get attention and likes online. Parents need to have a chat with their kids and inform them about the risks attached to this behavior.
