Dogs really are some of the most caring animals in the world. In fact, sometimes we even question whether a dog’s love and loyalty runs deeper than a human’s. It seems that dogs would truly do anything for us, even if that’s at the expense of their own gain.
No story highlights this better than one of a dog living in the slums of Brazil. This caring dog’s actions will move you to tears.
A favela typically comes into being when squatters occupy vacant land at the edge of a city, and it’s also known as a slum or a shantytown. As you can imagine, life here is far from easy. Not only are they dangerous, but the occupants are usually desperately poor- and desperately hungry.
As well as homeless people, there are also many homeless animals living in favelas.
And when one local resident came across a stray dog, despite barely having the resources to even fend for herself, she decided to take the animal back home with her.
The woman was a huge animal-lover, and her lack of money didn’t stop her from wanting to care for others. If it was down to her, she would have rescued all of the homeless animals in the area, but she felt good to know that she was doing her bit to help just one.
The woman hoped that she would be bettering the dog’s life by bringing him home. But what she hadn’t realized is that he would also go on to better her life – in multiple different ways.
For an animal who has lived out on the streets for many years, it can be difficult to adjust to living in somebody’s home. The dog seemed a little wary to be surrounded by four walls, so his new owner decided to build him an enclosure outside of her home until he felt more comfortable.
The woman made sure that her dog never felt trapped in his new home, and he was allowed to come and go as he pleased. He would often roam the streets for many hours at a time, but as the weeks passed, he began to spend more and more time in his enclosure. It was the place where he felt the most comfortable and safe.
One day, the woman woke up in the night and realized the dog was missing.
The woman simply assumed that her dog has gone on a night time roam, and was quick to fall back asleep. But the next night, when she went to check on him once more, she realized that he had vanished again. Where could he possibly be going at such a later hour? She was determined to find out.
She hatched a plan to follow her dog, and was surprised about what she found!
The woman crept behind her dog as he trotted down the deserted street. She soon realized that he was heading towards someone – a woman who was holding out a bag. As he got closer, she lowered her bag and inside a huge, tssty selection of food was revealed.
The hungry dog happily began to eat the food while the mysterious woman looked on and smiled.
Standing in the shadows, the dog’s owner was shocked. All the while, her dog had been getting food from someone up the street – and she’s had no idea! But there was more to come.
Once the dog had had his share, the kind woman tied up the bag of food and placed it on the ground. The dog then picked it up and trotted away, leaving his owner to follow him once more.
The next location was an abandoned plot of land. There wasn’t anybody around, but the dog seemed to be waiting. He dropped the bag of food on the floor and looked around expectantly.
It was then that a whole host of animals emerged from the shadows and made their way gratefully towards the food.
It turned out that the dog had been feeding his street family! Goats, dogs, and kittens were all living off the food that he brought them each night – thanks to the donations from the kind woman, of course.
