Life for elderly persons can be hard, especially if they have family that are causing more problems then they solve. But sometimes these very special persons catch a break in a very big way.
A mountain to climb
The video starts off by introducing us to 90 year old Agnes Maples. She is a widow who was the unfortunate victim of an unkind relative who used her home and yard as a dumping ground for trash and unwanted items.
Over time, her yard looked less like a home and more like a dump. Neighbors complained to the city about the mess and the city took action. They contacted Agnes and demanded that she remove the trash or face fines of up to $2,500 a day. However, Agnes lived alone as her husband had passed and the relative who caused the dump was nowhere to be seen.
To make matters worse, Agnes’ home was in disrepair. She had holes in her roof that became the home of wild animals. There was also serious risk of rain water damage to her home because of serious issues with her gutters. Agnes needed help.
She was desperate for answers. Agnes picked up the phone and made a call to Operation Blessing and prayed that they could help save her home.
The rescue squad
The video goes on to describe the day that Operation Blessing came to help. A group of volunteers arrived, with skilled men and women ready to help. They organized a massive clean up effort to get rid of the trash and stop the city’s fines.
The handymen of Operation Blessing even went in and made repairs to Agnes’ home. The roof was repaired with sections being replaced and updated, all with the intent of making the home safe and comfortable for the elderly woman.
But they didn’t stop there. Operation Blessing called in volunteers from Volunteers from a nearby university were even called in to improve the curb appeal of the home. This included the addition of a garden and a brand new pathway.
Slowly but surely, Agnes’ home that had been in disrepair, was given new life. It was a place she could enjoy in peace and comfort. But they weren’t done yet.
Keeping her cool
Before leaving, Operation Blessing asked Agnes if there was anything else they could have done. Agnes describes in the video how she told them that the home could get very hot and she needed an air conditioner.
So the team ordered an air conditioner unit, then wrapped it up in neat paper as a gift. When Agnes saw the present she couldn’t believe it. She felt like she had everything she needed and had Operation Blessing to thank for it.
As she said in the video:
“They’re all my little angels. And I never will forget them.”
Videos like this are a reminder that help can be around the corner thanks to the generosity of others. Agnes was in a bad situation because of a neglectful relative and felt like she had no one to turn to. But by reaching out to Operation Blessing, Agnes was able to turn things around in a very big way.
