Finding yourself in the middle of an armed robbery is a scary thing.
And it’s even worse if the store that the armed robbers are targeting is yours.
That was the case for beauty supply store owners, Mamie and David Ugwanyi.
Their family-owned store, located in Des Moines, Iowa, was robbed one afternoon while their children were with them in the store.
A surveillance camera caught the entire robbery on tape, and what it revealed was something incredible.
In the video below you can watch as two men enter the store with hoods up, face masks on, and guns in their hands.
One of the men goes over to a woman who was shopping in the store, puts a gun to her head, and pushes her to the floor.
The robber keeps the gun pointed at her for a moment and the woman stays where she is with her head down.
The robber then walks over the top of her and continues on with the robbery.
When the woman finally looks up, she sees a scared little girl crouching in the aisle next to her.
That little girl is, Victoria, the daughter of Mamie and David, and she was terrified.
Although the woman on the ground was probably just as scared, she made sure to protect the little girl the only way she could.
She called the girl over to her and laid down over the top of her, protecting her from any potential harm that would come her way.
The men ended up leaving the store, and thankfully no one got hurt.
Mamie told reporters that the whole thing was like “a bad dream.”
When the masked men entered her store, her children were out of sight.
She didn’t know what was happening to them or if they were in danger.
Victoria told reporters, “I saw, behind them, they had a gun in their hand.”

Whether you are a little girl or a grown man, being in a store while armed men are robbing it, is a very scary ordeal.
Victoria saw the man with the gun push the woman who ended up protecting her to the ground.
Victoria says that the woman told her, “‘Hey, come down here.’ Then she covered me.”

The owners of the store didn’t know the woman but they were very thankful nonetheless.
David told reporters, “God bless her. I thank her very well for, you know, giving my daughter courage and for protecting her from these wicked guys.”

Victoria also had something to say to the woman who helped her out.
She said, “Thanks for saving me.”

Unfortunately, the police have yet to catch the two men who did this but they are still looking.
Hopefully, the family will get to meet and thank the woman who saved their daughter in person one of these days.
Because without her, this situation could have been so much worse.
