There are more than a hundred different types of dancing. Most people have heard of jazz, ballet, salsa, ballroom and tap dancing, but have you ever heard of clogging?

Clogging is, “a dance that is done in time with the music -to the downbeat usually with the heel keeping rhythm.”

Clogging originated in the Appalachian Mountains during the mid-1700’s when Scottish, Irish, English and Dutch-Germans all started to intermingle. Clogging became a version of dancing that incorporated all their folk dances.

The clog dancing that Madison and Morgan perform has grown since then. Clog dancing of today has been influenced by,

“the Cherokee Indians, to African Blacks and Russian Gypsies, clogging has enveloped many different traditions to become truly a “melting pot” of step dances … New influences are creeping into the dance because of popular culture. Tap dancing, Canadian Step Dancing, Irish Hard Shoe and even street dancing and hip-hop influences are being seen to bear on the style of steps and dances performed by cloggers today.”

As clogging grows in popularity more influences have started to creep into clogging routines. Clogging was created by intermixing different dances, so for it to keep bringing in new dances only makes sense.

Morgan and Madison’s routine is impressive! It is not only the quick foot work, which is impressive all on its own, but their ability to stay in tune with each other. Their routine has many moves that require their arms to be interlinked, and they never miss each other’s hands.

Being sisters must have prepared these girls how to stay on beat with each other and a lot, a lot, of practice.
