Disney’s Frozen was a massive success, known most notably for its chart-topping hit, “Let It Go.”

By this point, probably everyone in the world has heard it even if they haven’t seen the movie. The song sparked a worldwide musical reaction and had such universal popularity that it was dubbed into another 41 languages and dialects.

Many performers have spun their own takes on the 2013 hit, but one of the most unique we’ve seen so far came from a flash mob in Paris’ Charles de Gaulle Airport.

Bemused travelers watched as a group of 30 or so performers, disguised as passengers sitting on chairs in the airport’s lounge, burst into song.

The spontaneous concert began with the opening notes of “Let It Go” ringing out across the room from a conveniently placed piano. The performers, mostly dressed in hoodies and jeans, began to softly sing the opening lyrics. At first, nobody knew what was going on and it seemed spontaneous… but before long, it was clear that this was a preplanned flash mob.

At first, passersby could assume that several strangers were simply singing to themselves.

But as the song progressed, the singing got louder and it soon became obvious that this was no coincidental outbreak! As it turns out, the singers behind the performance were vocalists in Perpetuum Jazzile, a world-famous a cappella group. The group was started in 1983 and has since released several albums throughout the years.

By the time the singers were belting out the world-renowned melody’s chorus, fellow travelers had stopped to openly stare.

Before long, other people were pulling out their phones to record the now-viral performance! The entire time, the singers played to their audience, with some of them getting up from their seats, swaying from side-to-side, and waving their arms in the air.

Unfortunately, it didn’t seem like any of the bystanders decided to join in.

But the group of singers more than made up for it with their own voices! When the song ended, the performers were applauded and catcalled by the crowd, and everyone sat down as if nothing had happened.

Perhaps the reason why this flash mob was so successful is because everyone loves “Let It Go.”

The hit reached the top five on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It also won an Academy Award for “Best Original Song” in 2014. If that wasn’t enough, it scooped up a Grammy Award for “Best Song Written for Visual Media” in 2015.

Sung in Frozen by American actress and singer Idina Menzel, “Let It Go” was estimated to have sold more than 10 million copies in 2014. The catchy tune never quite loses its edge, and makes it back into the charts every year in time for Christmas.

We don’t know why Perpetuum Jazzile chose Charles de Gaulle to perform at, but the airport is no stranger to flash mobs.

Back in 2013, there was a flash mob in Terminal 2, which involved a choreographed dance staged by airport employers themselves.

More recently, in 2019, there was a flash mob by famous female choir The Mystery of the Bulgarian Voices, complete with traditional musical instruments.
