How does this puppy break my heart while warming it at the same time!?

Francesca Negreanu and her boyfriend are fostering a very cute dog. But sadly, this sweet pup, Homer, has had a rough go leading up to his current foster parents. He was lucky enough to be rescued, and taken in by Negreanu who knew it would be hard to rehabilitate him.

What she didn’t know, was that Homer would have a sad but adorable quirk that made him oh so endearing.

Negreanu shared a video of Homer hanging out with her boyfriend.

It’s heart breaking to see how timid he is around people, but at the same time it’s really sweet to see him slowly warming up to his foster parents. The way he wants the pets but doesn’t really know how to ask for them is just adorable.

Sadly, this is a behaviour that is learned. Dogs aren’t born afraid of people.

Once he stops getting pet, he slowly raises his paw and places it on his new dad’s lap!

My heart, it breaks. What a cutie.

Just pet him already!

Homer was in a bad spot, which lead to him being so skittish around people. I don’t want the gritty details beyond that much, my imagination is bad enough. With an upbringing like that, only patience and love can help Homer come around to people and regain his built-in love for playing and pets.

“He had a rough couple of last years :( but we’re just so happy to help him start over and find a loving family” -Francesca Negreanu

Luckily, Negreanu is one of the best people possible to take this sweet boy in and help him heal.

She’s the founder of Street Savvy Dog Rescue in Portland, Oregan! They say in their mission statement that they are all about providing compassion, kindness and love in their rehabilitation, and are adamant about staying no-kill.

“I definitely consider myself a dog person. Dogs have the most incredible souls and personalities, and they are all so unique and wonderful. Our hobbies of hiking and exploring definitely match up, so having a dog in my life only adds to my day to day joy.” -Francesca Negreanu

Homer still has trouble looking people in the eye but he’s warming up to people again and getting better all the time. With enough support and a loving forever family, Homer might one day seem just like a normal, every day dog! Our fingers are crossed that it happens sooner rather than later.

Negreanu posted an update on Reddit, with Homer cuddling up to her!

A quick update from yesterday: Homer would love to thank you all for your kind words, support, and love❤️
