It’s always a good idea to upcycle or repurpose materials if you can. It’s a great way to stay environmentally friendly and get creative.
One woman has a particularly clever idea to try: she uses the humble shower curtain in lots of different ways.
Make an outdoor theater.
A lot of people love watching movies outside but drive-ins are hard to come by. Well, by hanging up a white shower curtain on your patio, you can create a cozy outdoor theater.
Just add some cushy chairs, popcorn, and beverages, and the entire family will have a blast.
Create your own placemats.
Instead of buying expensive placements, you can make some out of a shower curtain. Simply cut them the correct size and hot glue the edges to prevent fraying.
In minutes, you’ll have a beautiful table setting that would be perfect on a patio.
Make window treatments.
For this, all you need to do is hang command hooks on either side of a window or glass door. Then, slip a curtain rod over tension rods.
The final step … set the rods on the hooks.
Create outdoor pillowcases.
You can buy a new shower curtain or find one at your local thrift store. Cut the curtain a few inches larger than the pillows you’ll place inside and as with the other project, put hot glue around the edges, and fold the material over for a nice finished seam.
Then, add adhesive fasteners to the opening so you can easily slip the pillows in and out of the waterproof pillowcases.
Turn your pillowcases up a notch.
If wanted, you can take the pillowcases you just made from a shower curtain up a notch. One option is to cut out the decorative pockets from a pair of jeans someone outgrew. Then cut the bottom portion of the legs.
As you’ll see in the video, you’ll end up with a “journal pillowcase,” perfect for teenagers in the home.
Create a tablecloth.
The easiest project to upcycle a shower curtain is to use it as a tablecloth. With this, you don’t need to do anything other than to place it over the dining room table.
And with so many incredible designs, you can give this room a formal or informal look.
Make a fabric picture frame.
This is another great way to upcycle a shower curtain. Cut a piece of the material to fit the interior space of the frame. Then, you can hang it on the wall as is or use adhesive to add a photo to the center of it.
These few project ideas show you just how versatile an ordinary shower curtain is.
And as mentioned, if you need to stick to a tight budget, go to a thrift store. Just as with a retail store, you’ll find all kinds of options.
These projects are all so fun, simple, and creative. You’re sure to enjoy making any of them.
