Maybe you think a ponytail is just the easiest way to get your hair out of your face – or even the “lazy girl’s hairstyle.” Well, these 7 ponytail variations are about to prove that it’s a great way to look polished, professional, and put together no matter where you’re headed.

Hairstylist Kayley Melissa is here to show you how it’s done!

1. Monday

Maybe you feel extra bold on Mondays and are eager to get the week started. (Or maybe you’re like the rest of us and can’t believe it’s the beginning of yet another week and barely manage to roll out of bed.)

This ponytail takes just a few minutes but looks like you actually put some thought into your hairstyle.

  • Start by making a circle around the crown of your head and pull that section of hair into an elastic.

  • If you’re feeling ambitious you can grab a strand of hair and wrap it around the elastic to cover it up (but when it comes to ponytails, sometimes you want to go the less ambitious route).
  • After that, all you need to do is pull back the rest of your hair into an elastic tied a bit lower, tug a bit on the middle section to add some volume, and (perhaps) wrap your hair around the bottom elastic as well.

Pretty and easy!

2. Tuesday

If you managed to survive Monday, congratulations!

Now there’s no turning back and you might as well do something a little more elaborate to make it look like you’re really planning to get through the week in one piece.

  • In order to get some volume, it might be best to pull some of your hair forward at the top of your head as well. That prevents you from having to worry about tiny flyaways all day.
  • Now, you’re simply going to braid your ponytail and secure the bottom with an elastic.

Super simple!

3. Wednesday

Now it’s time for hump day. And if you can pull this off, there’s a pretty good chance you’re going to survive the week.

It’s ok, it’s easier than it looks!

  • You can part your hair wherever you’d like for this one, and you’ll begin by taking a section from the front of each side and pulling them back into a half ponytail.

Now, you may need to watch the video below to get this right, but we promise it’s super simple once you get the hang of it!

  • If you want your hair to look extra twisty, flip it through a second time and then loosen up the twists to add volume. (You do need a lot of hair to keep this style alive and voluminous!)
  • Simply grab two sections from the front once again, tie them in a lower ponytail, and “do the twist!”

There’s no doubt people will ask about your styling skills after this simple-but-gorgeous ponytail.

4. Thursday

Thursday is a day for ambition.

You’ve survived most of the week, tomorrow is Friday, and you might have a little extra energy to spare on your hair as a result.

Once again, it looks harder than it is.

  • Begin by taking a large section of hair from the side you normally part towards and tie back the rest into a ponytail.
  • Now, take the large piece of hair you left out and twist it away from your face and towards the back of your head.

  • Then you’re going to take that piece of hair and drape it over your ponytail.
  • Next, you’re going to secure the twisted hair beneath the ponytail with a little clip. You don’t have to flip your ponytail up to do this, but Kayley did just so you can see where to secure the twisted piece.

We’d probably need plenty of bobby pins and hairspray for this style, but it’s definitely worth a try!

5. Friday

Feeling good about the weekend? Try the most ambitious ponytail yet!

  • First, grab a small section at the middle top of your head and begin to French braid it.

  • Braid your hair until you get to the point where you want your ponytail to hang.
  • Now you’re ready to brush the rest of your hair back into one big ponytail.
  • Your regular braid will become part of that ponytail, but that’s why you gave yourself some extra room!
  • At the end, you’ll take the elastic out of the braided ponytail and let whatever braid is in there fall loose so all you’re left with is the French braid.

6. Saturday

Saturday is the best day for most of us because it demands the least amount of effort.

So start your day off with an easy ponytail that you can add some pizazz to only if you feel up to it.

  • First, she simply brushed her hair into a high ponytail.
  • Then, she curled small pieces of hair to give the final product some texture.

  • After that, she actually let her hair down and brushed it out to get big, soft waves before beginning the real ponytail.

This high volume ponytail is actually a 2-in-1!

  • Kayley brushes the rest of her hair back into a ponytail right underneath the first one.

Now it’s time to bring it all together!

  • Take a long strand of hair and wrap it around both ponytails so they look like one big one.
  • Then simply secure the strand and you’re ready to go!

7. Sunday

Sunday is a great day to try something new to get your mind off the week ahead – so Kayley saved the coolest ponytail for last.

  • To begin, grab two sections of hair from the front then pull those back and tie the hair like the beginning of tying a shoe.
  • Stick a bobby pin in the “knot” to hold it in place.
  • Then, take the ends of the hair you just knotted and pull them around underneath the rest of your hair and secure them with an elastic.
  • Next, take two sections of hair from the bottom of the big ponytail and bring them up and around to tie another half knot.
  • Secure the ends underneath with an elastic again.
  • Continue to do this until you reach as far down your hair as you’d like to go.
