We know mothers as protective creatures. It doesn’t really matter if it is an animal or a human — if something is a mother, she will protect and support her child for as long as she is able to.
This applies to these two pandas — a mother and her panda baby — when a panda keeper gave her cub back to her.
The video that displays this moment was uploaded back in 2018 and totally blew up the internet, going viral with over 20 million views. You will shortly see why it blew up so much for yourself!
In the beginning of the video, we see the mother and her cub in the same room except the mother is in a cage and her cub is not. Her cub is outside of it, roaming around, while the panda keeper is cleaning up and taking care of some things.
The mother isn’t simply okay with this, though. The whole time her cub is out of the cage, she is pacing and walking as close as she can to her baby. She stares it down and follows it around at the edge of her cage. It is almost as if she is trying to tell the keeper that she wants her baby back.
And eventually, the keeper gets the message. So she gets a hold of the baby panda and carefully puts it back in the cage with its mama.
What happens next is so adorable.
You would think that the mother would just be happy that her baby is back and that’s it. But nope, the mother has the best reaction ever.
Once her baby lands in the cage, she gently picks it up with her mouth and rushes it over all the way to the other side of the cage, far away from the human.
Next, we can’t really see exactly what the mother is doing to her child, but she’s definitely doing something as she is huddled over her baby. It almost seems like she is inspecting it and making sure it is okay.
“I wonder what goes through their heads when humans help animals, I seriously really wonder what the animals think,” one person commented curiously on the video. “That little cub was probably like, ‘No, mommy, just five more minutes!'” Another person wrote.
A lot of people seem to think that the baby panda was in trouble when it finally got back into the cage and that its mother was “yelling” at it. That does seem like a pretty funny concept, we have to say!
The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is a non-profit organization that is focused on pandas and other rare animals. It is located in Chengdu, Sichuan, China.
Most of the work that goes on at the facility is scientific but every now and then, some video-worthy moments take place. We sure are happy that this was caught on video so that the rest of the world can continue to enjoy it and have a laugh!
