We have all seen dams in nature. We have also seen pictures of beavers building dams.

Something that many of us haven’t ever seen is a beaver living indoors—and building a dam there.

This might seem strange. To many people, it is a pretty unique situation to think about.

Home is where the beaver dam is

Justin Beaver—also known as JB—is a rescue beaver. He lost his family and is going through rehabilitation. He’s currently living in a house with his human family. He’s receiving all of the love and care he could possibly need.

Recently, an adorable video of JB has gone viral. He’s been a very busy beaver. JB has started building dams around his house. He’s kept it pretty interesting with the materials he is choosing to use.

In the viral video, you can see that JB is dragging anything from rugs to blankets around the house. Brigette, his caregiver, points out that he stole her daughter’s lacrosse stick.

Dam building skills

It seems like the baby beaver is extremely busy trying to construct this dam. He moves quickly and is constantly adding to his collections.

Brigette was surprised to see how well he was building the dam. She didn’t know that he would be doing it or when he would start. Apparently, now is the time.

In addition, Brigette shares some insight on living with a beaver. She explains some of the care she has to give, such as providing baths several times per day.

Pretty cute with the sound on too

This video also showcases some of the beaver’s sounds, which are not well-known. He has different sounds for different situations. Brigette explains that JB has a sound for greeting her and a sound for when he wants out of his kennel.

To some people, JB’s cries sound just like baby cries. He also has to sleep with a blanket in his mouth.

Watching this video usually shows people that they know very little information about beavers. Luckily, Brigette has plenty to share.

One of the family for now

In the video, Brigette talks about some of JB’s favorite things. He loves sweet potatoes. She also gives him some of his favorite types of tree to chew on. He’s a huge fan of fleece blankets and seems to like snuggling up.

This might seem all cute, but there are some downsides to having a beaver in the house. Brigette mentioned that he has caused several hundred dollars’ worth of damage. Naturally, since he’s used to living in nature, he has chewed on the baseboards and other wood surfaces in the home.

Brigette and her family hope to release JB back into the wild sometime soon—and not only because of the damage he’s causing! She wants him to go to a place where he can live his life as a normal beaver. She simply can’t provide a real-life experience for him.

Since JB will be in Brigette’s home for a little bit longer, she’s having a pond built in her backyard. This will be the perfect place for JB to explore safely.

Not everyone has the awesome opportunity to rehabilitate a wild animal, such as a beaver. Brigette’s experience seems to be a good one, but there are of course some challenges.

One of the things that surprised Brigette about JB is that he’s so soft. We’re sure she’s surprised by his dam-building skills too.

Even though her house is now damaged and probably a little bit messy from JB’s work, Brigette seems happy to be helping the little guy out.

Hopefully, this busy beaver gets to build some dams in nature soon enough. He’s probably excited to get back out there and explore!
