Do you ever just walk by a vending machine and think, โMan, I wish I was small enough to crawl inside and grab a snack real quick?โ
Chances are, you have! No one likes to deal with iffy vending machines, where snacks get stuck halfway to their fall โ where money goes to get eaten up with no end result.
Well lucky for animals, some of them might just be tiny enough to slide right into the large, food-filled blocks and snatch whatever their stomach desires.
This one raccoon, in particular, had the right idea.
Instead of taking the typical route and going dumpster diving in hopes of any potential leftover treats, this raccoon decided to go straight to where all the food comes from: the vending machine. It makes complete sense to skip all of the noise and go straight to the source!
Well, thereโs a little plot twist. On the surface, at least, it may have sounded like a good idea to get some free food, but there was a little hiccup, and things didnโt necessarily go according to plan.
Turns out, it was easy to get inโฆBut not so easy to get out.
The Volusia County Sheriffโs Office in Florida was made aware of the raccoon that was stuck in the machine after he somehow managed to enter it. This all went down at a local high school.
Seems like the swinging flap that the raccoon entered through didnโt make for the most graceful exitโฆIt didnโt make for an exit at all! The tiny, furry animal was completely stuck. Because he was trapped, authorities were able to catch him in the act.
Fortunately for the hungry little raccoon, authorities did not punish him. They simply let him run out back into nature with a warning.
โWhat they did was put the vending machine on a dolly and wheel it to the back of the school,โ Andrew Gant, spokesman for the sheriffโs office, originally told The Dodo. โThen they opened the door and the raccoon ran to freedom on his own. They didnโt want to freak him out.โ
โI love raccoons,โ Gant continued.
Itโs unclear how many snacks the raccoon dug into and ate during his time in the food box โ if any at all โ but it was undoubtedly a pretty cute image.
The Sheriffโs Office took to Facebook to share a short clip of it all going down. Authorities go to get the raccoon out of the vending machine, when he then jumps out and runs away from them as fast as he possibly can. Clearly, heโs embarrassed that he was caught! But everyone was fine with it and completely safe, and they let him off easy.
