Getting an ultrasound done is typically a time of joy for expecting moms. It’s a chance to get a small glimpse at your future child before they are born.
Unfortunately, things don’t always go as planned.
When Jessica Woods from Oklahoma went to get an ultrasound recently, the image that popped up on the screen was enough to shock any mom. The picture showed what appeared to be a skeletal figure growing inside of her.
As one would expect, Jessica was completely terrified.
“First, it was like a normal ultrasound and it just looked like a normal baby. And then, he turned his head and that is whenever it started looking skeletal,” Jessica told Inside Edition.
The image very clearly shows the outline of a bare skull.
It’s a far cry from what you would expect a baby boy to look like. In fact, it looked more like something out of a zombie movie than something out of real life.
“I was kind of creeped out because I never had any weird scary ultrasounds with my daughter,” said Jessica. “I don’t know. It was kind of weird.”
We don’t blame her for being a little freaked out by the situation.
Ultrasounds typically show facial features, but nothing like this. It was out of the ordinary, and at first glance, Jessica thought she might be giving birth to Skeletor, the fictional archenemy of He-Man in the Masters of the Universe franchise.
However, doctors told her that she had nothing to worry about.
The X-ray was just doing its job — picking up an image of the underlying bone structure of the child. The fact that the unborn baby looked like a zombie child was just a fluke.
“Whenever I first saw it I was like, okay, is this normal? Is he going to like, look normal? But after she explained everything to me, I didn’t really worry about it,” said Jessica.
Ultimately, the birth went well and the baby was, in fact, born with skin.
The child is completely fine and has all of his facial features intact. Jessica named the boy Silas and everything is going smoothly for the family.
At this point, they hardly even think about the ultrasound anymore.
Although at the time, it definitely was slightly concerning. When you are having a child, you hope for the best and that things turn out okay, but there is so much that is simply out of your control. There are so many factors that can affect a pregnancy and even if you do all of the right things, you can still end up having complications.
However, in this situation, it turns out that any fears the family had were completely misplaced. Seeing bone images on an ultrasound is totally normal, albeit, still a little weird to witness in person. Luckily, Silas is now very healthy and the freaky ultrasound is largely a thing of the past.
